Primeaction
I just got 20 thieving and I want to start thieving from the silk stand unless silk is totally useless. What is it used for? Is it more helpful than the the cake stand? Not all F2Pers are beggars or scammers, some are respected members, but these respected people are over-populated by these beggar and scammers. twr_phr33k
Well, you'll need silk for a few quests... other than that it's useless. You can steal from the stalls and sell to the fur trader in Varrock but you won't really profit much.

Celestrana
If you use Karamja rum on a piece of silk, then you get a cleaning cloth that you can use on poisoned weapons to clean off the poison. That's one use for silk. Other than that, any other use would most likely be quest related. Unfortunately, I can't remember what quest would need silk but I'm sure you can find out by searching through Tip.it's Item Database.
