stan18
The computer I have, the one in my room/the one i'm on, is seven years old. Everything in it has been updated at one time or another, except the processor, motherboard, and one of the 256 ram cards. But its slow. Very slow. The motherboard and processor are old and most likely outdated (512 ram max, usb 1.0, etc) So i'm thinking, hey, im going to get some cheap pieces and put them together. After browsing newegg for about 30 seconds, i realized i had no clue what i was looking at. And then i remembered, i don't know anything about computers! Google did little to further my knowledge, but after matching words, i found two cheap pieces that i might be able to use http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819116031 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 813157092R I just need to know if these two would go together, or if theres something else cheaper/better. I'm not lookin to make a gaming comp, just a general music/movies/hw Btw, heres my old motherboard's specs (i think these should be right) ASUS CUSL2 JumperFree pc133 AGP Pro/4x Motherboard Intel 815E Chipset PC133 SDRAM & 133MHz FSB ^ i don't get any of that Any help is welcome ;)
blade995
They will not work together. The motherboard is socket 775 and the processor is not. Go with socket 775 parts as it's newer. Another note is do not go with an open box motherboard. On newegg anything that is open box does not come with any cables, manuals, software ect. Just the motherboard. Get retail. Also what is your budget? The celeron chip and picked out is very old, outdated, and slow. Do you need a hard drive? operating system? cd/dvd drive? Case? bartoron
Those two won't work, since the mobo is socket 775 and the CPU is socket 478. Not only that, but both the mobo and the CPU are crap. And I mean crap. Also, don't get an OEM mobo or CPU. It's really not worth it.
stan18
Well, they really can't be crappier than what i have now And im hoping to keep it under $
blade995
Well, they really can't be crappier than what i have now And im hoping to keep it under $100 Is that for just the motherboard and processor? You say you have sdram which you can not use with a new motherboard so you will also need to upgrade that. My recommendation is to spend $200 and upgrade the motherboard, cpu, ram and use the onboard graphics. That will put you over budget but that would be the wise upgrade. You can get a dual core cpu for like $60 which is much faster than a single core.
JoeDaStudd
Well, they really can't be crappier than what i have now And im hoping to keep it under $100 I got you these CPU link Motherboard Link Ram link Thats a AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (single core 2.0GHz), Fox AM2 board DDR2 ram slots (4gb max) on-board graphics (GeForce 6100), and 512mb of ram (DDR2). It totals at just over $100 (you have to minus $20 for the rebates), not inc tax and del.
