Cheapest Bar to smith

Lemurian

Recommended Posts

I have Smithing 55 and I need 65 for Devious Minds. Money does not make any limitation.

I just want to know which bar is the cheapest for me to train on by just smithing on anvil. I'll probably make arrowheads or knives.

You can buy steel bars and make cannonballs.

Steel bars are 500-550ea while the cannonballs are 200-220ea, and you get four per bar.

You couldn't be more wrong here!

I once found a small secret called the 'Tourist Trap Quest'

You learn the ability to make darts after this quest. You can make 10 darts out of 1 bar and they are only 1 point weaker then their corresponding knife, of which you can make 5.

Buy iron bars (200ea) and buy feathers (5ea)

1 bar gives 10 dart tips, which requires 10 feathers.

Total cost 250gp

Iron darts can easily be sold for 30gp ea, making you a profit!! I managed to sell mine (10k) for 35-40gp ea! Which made me quite a buck on my way to 60 smithing.

It is either that or making bolts. But I am not aware of the current bolt prices. But if you can lay your hands on mithril bars (1000-1100ea) you can make those into bolts. These easily sell for 150-180ea. Making you a profit to.

Uhm, guys? I'm not looking for a profit. I'm just planning to buy me some levels quickly and I want to know what is cheapest Bar prize compared to Experience. I'll use the products myself afterwards.

The fastest are steel bars, if you buy the bars at 600gp ea and sell the plates 1k each you need 10.3 gp per xp.

Making iron knives is also good xp and you'll even make a little profit.

Well, since your not worried about a profit, you could either make the best thing you can to lvl up or make loads of mith arrowheads and make arrows for range training.

Also to expand on the range part, If you do Animal Magnetism quest you will get an Ava's Accumulator. If you dont already know, it will return ANY arrow you shoot, includes the mith ones you may make to train smithing.

Now for the Numbers.

To get you from 55 to 65 you will need:

11,186 Iron Bars

7,457 Steel Bars

5,593 Mith Bars

And since you said you where just smithing not smelting you must buy those bars to actually get to 65....and I see quite a bit of money going down the drain if you buy, smith, and DONT sell.

Now to continue on with the Mith arrows. We will round that 5,593 number to 5,600 bars to make it easy.

5,600 smiths into 84k arrow heads. If you do make arrows out of them you would also need 5,600 normal logs to fletch into shafts and 84k feathers.

Mith bars are 1.4-1.6k each. Going with 1.5keach you would need to spend 8.4 Million gp if you bought all the bars at once. Normal logs are running up to 100 gp each, so I would cut my own. Feathers be easy and cheap I would buy at the lowest price I could get, like around 5gp each.

1k mith bars = 1.5M

15k Feathers = 75k

1k normal logs = 100k(If bought not cut)

Total = 1.675M

You could use or sell for around 65gp each arrow which would NOT give you a profit but you would make some of your cash back. 15K mith arrows goes for around 750k to 975k depending on who you sell to.

If you Dont sell anything you make you will be out of alot of cash....and by alot I mean possibly 10M+.

Good luck with your 65 goal tho.

Sorry for such a long post but my mind is crazy when I have to figure out numbers and whatnot.

Seeing as how I just read this little piece I might have more to add.

Bars----------Price Per---------Exp per Bar---------#gp per exp point

Bronze Bar---50 Gpa-------------12.5-------------------4

Iron Bar-----200Gp ea-----------25---------------------8

Steel Bar----600Gp ea-----------37.5-------------------16

Mith Bar-----1.5k Ea------------50---------------------30

My prices may be off but you get the drift. Bronze is cheapest and Mith is the most expensive.

Get gold gauntlets, and smelt gold. It's a TON faster than smithing bars into items, and it's slightly more xp per bar than steal (including smelting and smithing) and for gold, you gain it all just smelting. It's kinda expensive, but you can sell the gold bars if you really want.

Doing that in port phasmatys is probably the fastest or close you'll be able to achieve. Cannon balls aren't that great, but they make a profit.
