I keep getting it when I go and try to play Metrotropolismania (have been wanting to play that FOREVER) but every time I get the DRE thing. I've cleaned it, washed it with water, blew out the dust in the vent, and it still won't work. I'd prefer not to send it in or open it up and clean it, since I'm afraid I might break it and have to fork over $150+ for a new one.

You're going to have to open it up and adjust the laser. I haven't heard of any other way..

Be careful if you decide to do it though. The power cable is shortand I've pulled it out because I had no idea how short it was. I got my uncle to fix it for me though.

I tried that fix before to no avail. But maybe it was just me...

It's incredibly easy to fix your disk laser. I did it and most of games started working. :

 

 

 

Just google it. you need a philips head. jewelry screwdriver. rubbing alcohol, and like two quetips. Just have a clean surface so you don't lose any screws.

Work out a heck of alot cheaper to buy a new one or preowned tbh if you dont want to mess with it (and your warranty)

It can also depend on the color of the disc. My ps2 wouldn't play games with a blue bottom but wold have any other game work :? . Still never found out how to fix it too :( . Anyways, what other are saying about cleaning your system are true. (I'd know, I've cleaned it out twice :shock: )

For blue-bottomed discs I just flip the playstation 2 upside down and it works the first time every time. do the samething with older scratched ones that are not nlue-bottomed and it works the same way.
