Magic - Ranged and Combat levels (Please Read)

Can someone please explain how magic and ranged give combat levels, or how i can avoid adding so many combat levels by leveling these skills.

 

 

 

I am a 1 def pure but want some magic and ranged too at higher level, but don't want it to affect my combat level much.

I don't know the exact formula, but here are some examples

 

 

 

At 99 range, or mage with 99 hp (and nothing else) you would be combat level 73.

 

 

 

So as long as your prayer and defense are 1, then any combat over 73 is purely melee based.

 

 

 

But let's say you are 70 att and str and 99 hp ( I know the 99 hp is farfetched here...) then you can go as far as 94 mage AND range before either adds to your combat.

 

 

 

The basic idea is that melee range and mage are each combat styles. If one would make you higher the others don't count towards combat level.

Ok, so what your saying is:-

 

 

 

These are the stats i'm planning to get

 

 

 

60 attack

 

1 defence

 

70 strength

 

 

 

This will give me 62hitpoints and a combat level of 58.

 

 

 

I can then get 89 magic and ranged before I combat up again, but what is the use of this to a PKer?

The major advantage you'll have if you level mage through non-combat spells and range with a cannon is that you'll be able to use any attack spell, including spells that hit in the upper 20's, while remaining at cb 58. When your quarry runs at you to melee, you can switch to a d weapon and pwn them. When they start to run away, you can either switch to a bow or hit 'em with another magic blast. If you get those levels, you'll be virtually unbeatable in the wild.

You might get 89 magic without leveling up, but ranged won't work (unless you use a cannon) because you'll always get HP exp.

 

Getting 89 magic would be a plus because you the possibility to use magic for pking as well (Teleblocking, normal spells up to fire wave and charged God Spells, Ancient Magicks, etc) plus you get ease in travelling with the teleports.
