August 24, 200718 yr As I'm sure players of the latest Final Fantasy games have noticed, there's a large thing missing from them: a world map. While you may travel from place to place on a straight path without many extra choices of what to do, you don't exactly get to fly an airship, or ride a chocobo, around a large, scaled-down map of the world. While they're certainlly enjoyable games, with plenty of side-quests and extras, you don't get the traditional feeling of the older FF's. My question is that, now that we have the PS3/XB360, with all the extra disc space and power, why can't developers start putting larger, more complex world maps in which you're still able to fly through, instead of these back roads leading from place to place and a completely non-interactive version of transportation? And if they can, then why don't they? I'd be very excited to see an expansive world map that isn't as small compared to your character (like it was in previous FF's and other rpg's) in a game like FFXIII, or any just any rpg that comes out within the next couple of years. So, anyone have any thoughts on this? Maybe I'm missing something here, but I doubt I'm the only one missing the interactive world maps. :anxious: "El que no arriesga no gana"
August 24, 200718 yr :| I don't understand. Do you mean you want it back to where you walked around the map and stepping on a city made you go inside? Although that has always been a staple up till 10, I have always found it so annoying, searching all over the map for something you need. I like the direction they are going where its a more of explore as you go world instead of a huge map that you just walk all over. I think with the space like you mentioned, they are gonna create a more expansive universe that gives you much more choice. Something like World of warcraft. You could start out but go run off to almost any place you want from there. I think the new FF's will be like that. Instead of a map, you just through a third person view. I'm a big fan, and I welcome this change. Although you are right, more moogles, chocobos and air ships are needed. Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! I don't know, just my opinion that there should be a difference when you're playing an MMO and a regular consol RPG (in terms of the world map). And I agree on the last comment \ . September 1, 200718 yr Square-enix's goal is to make FF more life like. Irl do you step on towns and go in them? Do you walk around where you can see water from the middle of the contnent? Do you have a mini map in the corner of your eye telling you wear the towns are? Ponies!
September 1, 200718 yr Not sure what it's like in the other FF's but I've been playing number 12 and it hasn't bothered me too much. I do wish there was a shortcut though to get to the map of the current town you're in, its agrivating going to options > world map > town > district (or w/e).

The FF games (1-9) comprised of your character running on an outer world, and only go into a town or dungeon when ever you step on one. Personally, I prefer 10 and 12 because they allow you to experience everything first hand, not just have a small character walking around till they hit a town. Also im surprised Nadril, How hard is the battle system for you? How far are you? Sig by IkuraiYour Guide to Posting! Behave or I will send my Moose mounted Beaver launchers at you!

I'm loving the battle system so far, its so much better than the old ones.
September 2, 200718 yr Final Fantasys after 9 have failed to impress me. I liked turn based battles and world maps and all that crazy nonsense. 10 was bearable just because of the wow factor but after that....meh.

You're right, Square Enix is trying to make their Final Fantasy series, including features such as magic, monsters, moogles and chocobos, realistic. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.

I do realize that, but more-so in terms of graphics than features. Plus there is a way to do that and still have the sprawling world map right? I don't like having to choose my destination and be there within the time a loading screen takes, I want to have to walk/ride/fly there. It also seems like there was much more room for extra/secret areas and events when there was a world map rather than places connecting to each other. Didn't note the sarcasm there bubsa... "El que no arriesga no gana"
September 4, 200718 yr I wish they did bring back the world maps, I missed them while playing 10, 10-2 and 12. Atm they just have a cheap birds-eye view map showing what loctains you can travel to. World maps were more interactive as someone said and I liked exploring the world map. I missed the music for the world maps to. :( No longer playing Runescape, I caught the WoW bug.
