September 2, 200718 yr Morning, I have a standard desktop PC which connects directly to the Internet, I also have a laptop for work which allows me to work from home (mobile access etc). The laptop has wireless built into it but my desktop doesn't have wireless at all, would an item such as the one below allow my laptop to connect to my desktop PC, or would it just allow my desktop PC to connect to a wireless network?? I want my desktop PC to be able to create a wireless network for my laptop to join, hope that makes sense? http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6769125.htm Would this work or would I need a router? At the moment my desktop connects directly to the internet using an adsl modem.. To be honest I want the wireless on the go so I can 'work' from home in front of the TV instead of in my room. September 2, 200718 yr Provided you're running Windows, I'd imagine it would be a simple case of plugging the device into your PC, then using the connection wizard to set up internet sharing.

September 2, 200718 yr Shockingly expensive for a USB Wifi dongle - unless all kit is "rangemax", it will only work as standard 54g anyway. You'd probably be better off with a wireless router - wired to the main PC, wireless to the laptop, networking them together and feeding Internet to both. For anyone wanting truly mobile internet (UK), this is worth a look http://three.co.uk/personal/products_se ... /index.omp Just watch the limit though - 10p per meg is ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã100 per gig over limit OUCH! This is pre-launch, with 3.5G coverage to be ramped up, but this is mobile internet at prices comparable to some home packages.

What you are looking for is a wireless router. The item you posted is basically just a receiver, allowing the computer it plugs into to pick up wireless signals. Your laptop has that built in already, so you don't need it and your desktop is connected to a wired connection so you don't need it for that either. What you need is a "transmitter", a wireless router. Those I listed above are good ones, however, newegg does not ship to the UK so you will need to go to a computer store or something to find one. They should be able to help you. Basically this is what your setup would end up looking like: usually setting the network up is as simple as plugging the router in, pressing the "on" button and clicking "connect" on your laptop.

It is possible, but a standard usb receiver will not do that, and the only way of doing that is MUCH more trouble then it's worth.
