Well, I can't say my experience with TalkTalk has been entirely a bad one. When they provided 2mb broadband, I can't say we had any problems. However, when they decided to switch to BT's 21CN system and provide us with 8mb, their service really took a dive. On the promised date of 8mb, our phoneline went dead. Completely dead, that is. No dial-tone, couldn't ring out, couldn't ring in and as a consequence, no internet. We made a complaint with their customer service and it took about three days to get the connection back. Since then, the phone line has been bad quality with constant noise, the internet disconnects all the time when set at 8mb, and is equivalent to dial-up if we ask them to limit us to 2mb. There is no "in-between" so don't think you can get away with a 4mb or 6mb connection because they will only put you onto one of those two profiles. Customer service is horrible. You listen to some cheesy music for about half hour before getting through to first-line support. They generally tell you things you already know and absolutely refuse to put you through to a supervisor. If, by some obscure chance, you are forwarded to second-line support, they promise you they'll fix the problem and report back to you within 48 hours. Not once have they done this with me. At one point, it took so long to get through to them that their support center closed for the night before we'd had a chance to speak to someone. Oh, yes, did I mention they also make up contracts so you stay with them? To my parents' knowledge, they have never signed a contract with TalkTalk, yet when we requested to leave TalkTalk they told us there would be a ÃÆââ¬Å¡Ãâã70 cancellation fee because we were within 3 months of our 18 month contract. Funnily enough, when questioned further we were told that we were in the last month of the contract. Odd? I'd say so. In all, it's a shoddy service and customer support only manage to pass you from pillar to post. Nothing ever gets done even though they promise to fix problems. Trust me, if you decide to join TalkTalk you will have endless problems and frustrating discussions with poor customer service reps.

Of course you can, all you do is to bake the drive for 40 mins on gas regulo 7, with an old RLL hard drive next to the oven (RLL Drives soak up data) and then all that lovely data will be on it.. Don't forget that those drives were measured in megabytes, so you may need a few of them. Will it work faster if I put it in the microwave instead?

Or wait... nah, just have a bunch of dead magnetic-accepting ceramics. ROTFLMFLDYCAO :XD: ... You mean I can't bake my hard drive to recover the 230gb I lost? :(

If you were playing around with internal components while it was running, you may have moved a dodgy power cable and shorted your hard drive. And I remember that guy who was pulling RAM out when his PC was running. :D

Do you have a dual monitor setup? Sounds like a graphics problem. I think I've encountered something like this with hardware acceleration. Check that.

To simplify: An IP address is a number assigned to each PC on the network. It is exactly what it says: an address. It tells all the other devices on the network that there is something there. If two things have the same IP address then it will conflict and not be able to connect. This usually happens when you're not using DHCP (Automatically assigns IP addresses to all devices on the network). Either go into the connection settings on your PC and laptop and make sure they have different IP addresses, or go into your router and enable DHCP + automatically find IP address on your PC & laptop.

Provided you're running Windows, I'd imagine it would be a simple case of plugging the device into your PC, then using the connection wizard to set up internet sharing.

He's already determined it's not the cable by plugging it into his monitor.

Check you don't have POP or something turned on. So far it seems like the TV might be faulty.

I know this is fairly old now but you didn't get back to us. Check the game for scratches. I had a game that was completely scratched after someone borrowed it off me. All I did was put the disk into boiling water for about 30 seconds, dried it off and put it in. Works fine now. Although, since it's a new game, you may as well take it back and get a new one.

Changing ports is specific to the firewall. Which firewall is on your PC? (ZoneAlarm, Norton, etc).

Eventually solved this by purchasing: 2x RCA Phono Female to 1 x 3.5mm Male Jack Audio Cable. Then I just used that to plug the two component cables into the "PC Audio" jack on the TV. :)

You're talking about something that isn't in use. The TV doesn't have HD component cable input. It only supports VGA, DVI and SCART. Thanks anyway. :)

I tried plugging the two cables into what I thought would be the sound if using a VGA cable, I was wrong. :P There is an audio jack on the TV for a pair of PC speakers so I'll see if I can find something that converts the red and white component cables into that kind of jack. Earlier on, I tried plugging the red and white cables into a hifi system, then outputting it via auxillery to the speakers attached. Sound worked fine except it's impractical to have the hifi on my desk (TV is wall mounted and the cable isn't too long).

Hey, hey. I recently purchased a VGA High Definition cable for my X-box 360. I plugged it in and cranked the screen resolution up. Great picture, except I have no sound. Now, I figured I'd just plug the two red + white component cables into the ports on the TV. Didn't do anything. Tried them in SCART and still nothing. Next to the VGA port on the TV there's a "PC Audio" socket. Do I need to use that for sound? It seems a bit pointless having the red and white component cables if that's the case. Any information on this would be great. :)

About Linux, Ubuntu is a nice choice for a new user. It uses apt-get and that definitely makes installing things easier. WINE takes a bit of time setting up and can be tricky. I'm also pretty sure that you may have some emulation problems with Windows programs (they'll run slower than if they were running on Windows for a start). I'd definitely stay away from Gentoo unless you know exactly what you're doing (Been there, messed it up, don't feel like doing it again). Seriously, there's a lot of work involved in installing Gentoo that really isn't suitable for a new user. I've only ever used a Gnome desktop myself, so I can't really comment on that. Drivers shouldn't be an issue and you can easily get a LiveCD of almost all Linux distributions to test your system. I know Ubuntu's newest installer is done from inside the LiveCD interface. Does it sound like I'm a rep for Ubuntu? (Honestly though, it is a good choice for a new user). Only problems I've ever had with drivers was the old distro of Ubuntu wouldn't work with my ATI Radeon x1600 and webcams are a pain to get working. Cedega and Crossover Office cost money, don't they? They are relatively cheap but if you want to game, they are your best bet, I'd say. There are plenty of people here that know about Linux than me, including Nyosuht, so don't take my advice to heart. :P

Did you just try to burn a video file to the DVD or did you convert it into a format that your DVD player can read?

The BETA for this bored me after about a week. Really disappointing considering how long I've been waiting to play it. I absolutely loved the instruments, however. Spent hours stood in Hobbiton playing my horn with a group of friends. Only problem is that you can't hold notes. :(

The power supply is 500watts. 17 amps on the 12 volt, I believe.

I used DriverCleaner (forgot to mention that :P) and it didn't seem to do much at all. Do you reckon reinstalling Windows would make any difference if it's a software problem?

I'm using ATi Tray. It's some sort of third-party software for tweaking ATi cards. There is a graph function on here. :) Thanks for the advice, I'll make a post on one of the other forums now.
