Futurama
I have a new computer coming in a few days and theres a good 15gb or so of files I want to transfer to my new one. I then need to format and reinstall windows on my old computer as im giving it to my brother. What would be the best way to go about transferring the files? Would putting my current harddrive in my new system and copying the files from it be best? There's also linking the two computers to the same via my router and transferring over LAN...what would be the best way to do this? I've done this with MSN messenger before and when they're on the same connection, the speed is a lot faster than internet based connection. Or should I just stick to minimals and burn everything I need to CD-R's like I did before? :/
JoeDaStudd
Using the old harddrive as a second drive on your new pc would be the fastest and easiest way of doing it. CD's you would have to make over 15 of them which means burning and copying 15+ CD's. Lan, Never tried it, the max speed (transfer wise) wouldn't be as fast. Chris
Aye, I second the HDD in the new machine. Just unplug a CD/DVD-ROM drive and plug the HDD in there. 100Mb LAN isn't slow, but setting it up and transferring would still take more time than shoving the drive in. Assuming it's not a pre-built machine and opening it up voids your warranty. If so, LAN. Notoriously Trollish.
Futurama
I'll go for the HD then. It's a custom built pc from an independant company so it's fine - doesn't even come with an OS on it, lol. Cheers guys.
