rebel_soul91
Hi. Whenever I click on my Java icon multiple times to try and download it, I get a message saying "Unable to download 'website.xml' for installation." I recently had to reinstall Windows and now I can't install Java which I need to play RS.. Whenever I try to play RS, I always get a grey screen. Thanks. Brandon_7
Have you tried just going here and downloading it?
rebel_soul91
Ya.. I got it on my computer. I saved it to Program files. Opening it don't work. And when I go to open it in program files, it won't load.
Brandon_7
I'm kinda confused. Is it that you downloaded the installer for Java and when you clicked it, nothing happened? Or that you already have Java installed but nothing's happening when you try to play RuneScape?
rebel_soul91
I downloaded the installer, saved it to my Program Files, went to the Program Files folder, clicked the installer, and nothing happened except a window that popped up for half a second then dissapered. So I kept pressing enter and I got that message.
Brandon_7
That's really weird. Have you tried restarting your computer and trying again? Also, see if you can get the error message again and if you can, try to Google it and see if you get anything to help solve it.

Brandon_7
Well I think I'm out of ideas, I'm sorry. The only thing I have left is for you to Google the error message that you got and see if you can get any solutions that way. :wall:
rebel_soul91
Ok, NP. I googled it and nothing came up. :-s
InkofDeath
Are you sure your clicking on the installer? When you dl an installer program, it usually auto-prompts you to open the installer. If not, make sure your right clicking on the right icon for the installer as well, atfer that select open? Your default selector for left clicking may not be 'open' for some reason...? If not, I have no idea?
rebel_soul91
Nothing.. -.- Thankfully my membership payment hasn't got to them yet.
InkofDeath
Time to post screenshots? They would help dramatically! Also I mean step by step pictures. :-#

Randox
What version of windows are you using? To me that looks like 98, maby even 95  (they look veary simaler). And that might be the problem, all new java might not be backwards compatible for anything pre Windows Me or XP. In that case you either need a 95/98 compatible version, or a newer OS. You could also try dowloading directly from the internet, thats what the instaler does anyway. The site should have a few different installation methods, start trying the others. That massege is saying that it can't find/access the server that it needs to upload all the instaltion stuff from (the downloaded installer dosent actualy have Java, it downloads Java itself). rebel_soul91
It's a very old version of Windows XP.. It's Windows 98.. The thing I clicked on to download said Windows 98/Me, so I figured it'd work. I've also tried downloading the others but they're for Linux and the other OS. If someone would direct me to a site or google search of a Java that works with Windows 98 and Runescape, that'd be nice.. RS was working before I did a system recovery and I dunno what Java I had then. It also downgraded my IE to 5 instead of 6, so my Java version probably deleted itself within that masscre of riots. blade995
Well did you re-update your IE to version 6?
rebel_soul91
Yes. I even did an update and there's nothing about Java in there. -.-
blade995
Ok, I think I'm starting to get whats wrong here. Are you running a firewall? That may be blocking the installer from getting the files it needs.
rebel_soul91
Ya, it'd be on if I had one. \
Cruiser
Your screenshots show you downloading the online installer. Have you tried using the offline installer (same page, the 13.9 mb file) to avoid having to download extras while the installer works? On another note Windows 98 isn't 'a very old version of XP'. It's a completely different system. Anyway, support for Win98 was dropped completely in July of 2006, which means no new security updates for any new security problems found on top of getting dropped off support for a lot of software. It may sound like a broken record if you've heard it before, but it's time to upgrade to something newer. :P
rebel_soul91
Yes, still didn't work. It worked for me perfectly fine before I restored Windows 98 and I had to restore it because I deleted some files I shouldn't have.. So does anyone have any idea on how to fix my problem? I don't think I was even using that version of Java before the "incident"..
