Im 85 mining and 70 smithing and im F2P. Now what is the best way for me to level it? Right now im thinkin about mining 50k iron ores (have 10k currently) and smelt them. So what do you think?

Well, for F2P it is pretty hard either way. However, I'd say iron is the best bet for you. It is the best xp for F2P'ers. It beats steel smithing and that is really the only other F2P option.

I have 71 smithing and I train it in f2p by making steel plates.

 

 

 

I'm not sure if it's the fastest way but I do make a lot of money by alching my steel plates.

 

 

 

I also avoid iron because of the 50% chance of success when smelting it. (for me it seems like I only succeed 40% of the time lol)

Actually iron and steel are equal. An iron bar gives 25 xp when you smith it to an item. Steel bars give 37.5 xp. 50% success means you get 12.5 xp per ore. Steel bars need 2 coal and 1 iron which equals 12.5 xp per ore. So either way, it's about the same.

Right, but Iron takes longer because you need to make 14 bars instead of 9.

But iron is easier to mine then coal, so that makes up for that.

Solely smithing it is, but the topic creator was thinking about mining the iron himself and using it, so if he is mining, iron is just that bit more efficient.

Pesronally, I trained to 99 using iron ores and rings of forging, then smithing the bars into plates. I know a lot of people who smelt gold using goldsmith gaunts, as welll.

Iron is much faster to mine than iron and coal together. and when you smelt you should get about 14 iron ores. For steel you can make 9 bars per trip. However when your smeltign you spend just over 3x as long smelting the iron than you would for steel. So if you know how fast you can mine iron and coal, how long it takes to get from bank to furnace, and how long it takes to smelt a bar, you can use math to answer the question. If you pm me the times i'll do all the math for you and show you how its done :D

well actually im mining rune ores selling them then buyin iron. Every 100 rune ores is a little over 10k iron ores so.

i train it with super smelting addy bars, super quick exp + good profit and its not boring either if u have ppl to talk to, all u do is stay beside a bank and heat away
