Punitive_D
I'm not a newb hater -- we all were newbs at one time, and most of us would be considered a "newb" by someone in the game. After all, pretty much all of us are newbs compared to Zezima. Anyway, I try to be careful while trading with newbs. For example, if I'm carrying a tradeable quest item, and a newb asks to buy it, I ask him first whether he's done the quest that will allow him to use it. This wastes some time because he usually asks which quest and then wants help doing the quest, but that's the way I try to roll. I'd be interested to hear others' thoughts and reflections on trading with newbs in general and on something that I did the other day in particular. I was in west Varrock bank the other day Just before leaving, I called out "buying Zammy p1." Nobody responded right away, so I left. Then some guy came running after me saying he had the page. This guy wasn't exactly a newb -- he was level 74, but he seemed a little unsophisticated. I asked how much. He said "offer." Of course, this is standard. I offered 100k. I was willing to go somewhat higher. He said he didn't know what it's worth. I suggested that he look it up. He asked me to wait and logged out. I waited a few minutes, but finally left. He PM'd me later and said that he didn't know whether he should accept 100k and asked whether I had any items. We then went through a long list of items and combinations of items that I would trade for it. He wasn't sure. Finallly, he asked whether I had any chaos runes. I said not very many. He asked how many. I said 332. He offered to trade the page for the runes. I accepted. I think that the page was worth more than the runes. (I know it was worth more to me since I don't use chaos runes.) In fact, I think that the 100k that I offered him in the first place was worth more than the runes, although I don't really know since I don't buy and sell runes. Should I have told the guy that I thought he'd be better off with the 100k that I offered him in the first place?
andydageeza123
I think chaos runes are at around 150 each, or at least were when i last saw them. They may have even gone down. In essence, you bought that page for around 50k. I guess tho the page was worth 300 chaos runes to him, so although the 100k would have been better for him, he needed those runes and therefore thats what the zammy page was worth to him. Its a tricky subject when talking about what things are worth, cause people will always shout at you and say you've scammed someone, but there is a line (like someone finding a santa hat and you persuading them its worthless or something) My first ever sig wewt! klankaos
I think you possibly should've, but it's really his fault that he didn't get enough for it. The 100k is definitely worth more than the runes, but he should have taken the time to look it up. After all, it's not that hard. However, you should try to tell him that the 100k is worth more, and if he won't take it, then it's his fault he's not getting enough for it. I always try to give people a fair price, whether they're newbs or not. If they're not going to take the effort to find out how much it's worth, however, they shouldn't complain. Being immature is a part of being mature.
Mak_1027
hmm...well if I'm not mistaken chaos runes go for about 100 -125 ...so you definitely got the good end of that bargain ...but you gave him every opportunity to do the research and find the price and decide for himself what was fair and what wasn't. My son plays rs and sometimes he makes what in my opinion are some pretty poor trades, but he doesn't care...he just likes trading ...so win or lose he's happy. So maybe this guy is the same way, young and just thinks trading is cool. Either way I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
12pure34
Did you rip him off is the question your asking and wether you should tell him? First, no you did not rip him off. He CHOSE! to take the 332 chaos runes. As a mather affect, he came up with the idea. Second, you actually gave him time to look it up. He could have found the right price of 100k-200k anywhere on a price list. Thirth, you offered the 'right' price which many would agree. And in the working market, buyers tend to go as low as possible, sellers as high as possible. You end up in the midle. So you were totaly right. He declined the offer and finaly settled with, for most of us, a worse offer. Now.. did you rip him off? no Should you have told him? no Should you feel guilty? Hellll no! Enjoy the cheap page \

SwreeTak
Sometimes, when trading with newbs, you can get excellent offers. Some people accept them, and some people doesn't because they think that you shouldn't use the newbs bad knowledge of the game and it's prices. You did the right thing to let him check the price up. Although it seemed like he didn't do that, you gave him the chance. Myself I'm pretty much like you. I don't want to rip anybody totally off, but I can't say that I wouldn't miss a chance to buy something for a pretty cheap price and then make some profit by selling it for the normal price. But I would never rip a noob off with like 50k or something like that. Add me if you so wish: SwreeTak
reaper88888
If you gave him plenty of time to research, and he still wanted the runes, more power to him. He traded for what he wanted, not for what is the best deal... There is no meaning or truth in life but that which we create for ourselves.
