RoscoRosco
Hey, quick question. I've decided I want a much more faster internet to play RuneScape on. Does having a better graphics card make it run RuneScape better? Or is that only for games like CS and stuff? I'm not really sure. The graphics card I have now (I think) is: RADEON X300 Series. But I'm certain that's not very good. If I don't need a new graphics card, then what do I need? New broadband? I have one that's 8mb of speed, which I'm sure is pretty high unless I pay alot more for 20-24mb ones. Would they make RuneScape run alot faster? Or am I totally in the wrong here. I don't have alot of junk on my computer anyway, just a few songs and some pictures. Could someone give me advice to have much faster internet and also here is my speedtest: How do I get the ping (latency) thing lower. I play CastleWars and clicking for the flag is important and it's all down to how good your internet is and I've been told the lower the latency (ping) is the more able I'll get the flag. Also I have 3800+ tickets and I'm level 125 so don't think of me as some amature. Thanks.
blade995
Well a graphics card will not make Runescape run any faster. Runescape runs almost solely on the processor. Your internet is fine for Runescape, except for the ping. No broadband internet should have that ping. There has to be something wrong. Try re-setting your modem and router. If that doesn't work, call your ISP up and see whats wrong.
das1330
I second what blade said, and also if you have an x300 series graphics card in your computer, then I'm sure the other components are plenty fast to run runescape. It runs fine on a Pentium 2 laptop. Also, that ping is VERY high, so I would check on that. Normally, your ping should not pass 150 or so.
RoscoRosco
Ok I restarded my modem and this was the result: The ping/latency dropped around 200. Ok this is good improvement but I'm not happy yet, sorry. How am I able to further lower the ping more than 500 or so. Thanks.
Nadril
Talk to your ISP. On broadband you should not be getting that ping, but around 100 ping or so. 500 is incredibly high for broadband. The odd thing is your download speed is just fine. Also graphics cards would not help with runescape.
Doomster
I wondered if it was the Maidenhead server - is that your closest? That is one hell of a ping time, though as I understand it, there are two modes in ADSL, one has lower ping times, the other is better for throughput if the line is not good enough for the other mode... fastpath and interleave, though that may not be correct. Also try a TRACERT to somewhere - http://www.bbc.co.uk is often used as an example, to see if the ping is high from the very start, or only as it crosses networks. As for Runescape, I have a very long settings string which tunes my Java for dual core or hyperthreading, though I'm not sure how much real difference it makes. Also, Java is now at Version 6 update 3 - highly recommended to apply this security update.
RoscoRosco
Dublin is my closest one but I figured since it's over-seas and Jagex hq is close to Maidenhead I'd just do that one. Anyway, with the Dublin one my ping is still very high, so should I just phone up my ISP? But what should I say? Thanks.

First try this: Go to start > run > type "cmd" type this in (without quotes): "tracert -d http://www.google.com" Then post a screen shot of the whole thing so we can look at where the lag is coming in. blade995
Well your ping is fine in that. It maybe speedtest's server. Try it with different sites like runescape and bbc.

D. V. Devnull
Rosco, re-run the tracerts, but without the "-d"... I might be able to tell you what network is fouling up, because it definitely looks to me like some router out there just doesn't like you, or some black-hat-hacker is fouling with the net, and the ISP may need to re-route their traffic around it. I found the IPs are pointless without the DNS names, BTW...... ~Mr. Devnull and normally with a cool mind.(Warning: This user can be VERY confusing to some people... D. V. Devnull
Big help. Actually, it is a big help. Now I see exactly what's going on. Some idiot blew it on maintaining the servers that keep your net link going. Call your ISP, and have the tracert info handy. They should be able to clean up your net link, if they're not incompetent. :) Make sure you also keep tracert info handy, without the -d switch, for RuneScape.com also, so you can have that fixed too. :) Good luck on finishing off that problem. 8-) ~Mr. D.
