Mitch Hedberg had gigs, ranging from the adverage comedy club down the street, to vegas, to comedy central presents. Mitch died on march 30th, of heart faliure. An official cause of death was not immediately known, but an early report by Whitney Matheson, a writer for USA Today alleges Hedberg died in a New Jersey hotel room of a heart attack. Hedberg released two comedy CDs under the Comedy Central imprint and made several TV appearances on Craig Kilbourn, MTV, Crank Yankers, That '70s Show and The Late Show with David Letterman. Hedberg was one of Letterman's favorite comedians and was well-respected by other comedians such as Craig Gass, Doug Stanhope and Artie Lange. Today on his Sirius satellite radio show, "Unleashed," Jim Breuer was one of many comics lamenting the passing of Hedberg. Hedberg, a self-proclaimed partier, appeared on the Stern show earlier this month, proclaiming his drug use was under control. During the appearance, Stern discussed his move to satellite radio with Hedberg. The comic came back with a joke in his trademark spaced-out style. "I was listening to XM radio and they don't have a lot of commercials. After a half hour I wonder 'what should I buy?" There was little debate among Hedberg fans that the comedian often killed on stage. However, reviews of recent performances describe the comedian floundering through his routine and forgetting punch lines due to an apparent state of extreme intoxication. Fans of the comedian intially speculated that Hedberg's death was an early April Fool's joke because major news outlets were slow to report his death. My personal favourite - "I bought a doughnut and they gave me a receipt for the doughnut...I don't need a receipt for a doughnut, how about I just give you the money, you give me the doughnut. End of transaction. We don't need to bring ink and paper into this. I can just not imagine a scenario where I'd have to prove that I bought a doughnut. Some scepticle friend? 'Don't even think I DIDN'T buy that doughnut! I got the documentation RIGHT HERE!...Oh wait, it's back home in the files...Under D...For doughnut." It's funny because it's true - I hate getting receipts for things I'll use immediately, like a peice of gum, a hotdog, something. lol Sucks he died. I just never thought his act really flowed and was kind of choppy. But for one liners, you just can't beat the guy. This is the way the world ends. Look at this [bleep]ing shit we're in man. R.I.P. Mitch some more info on him Mitch Hedberg is the perfect example of how perseverance can pay off in stand-up comedy. The rising comic hit the stage for the first time in 1989 in South Florida, getting up at local open microphone nights and, by his own admission, not getting many laughs. Two years later, he moved to Seattle and found himself a bit funnier, a bit more admired and a bit more capable for getting paid road work. He started to play small-town clubs in Montana and Canada where audiences were so happy to see an entertainer show up, according to Hedberg, that the person didn't have to be that good. It took him about five years to develop a half hour of solid material, all the while working to conquer stage fright so intense that it had a marked impact on his vocal stage presence which remains today. Hedberg's fortunes changed in the late '90s when an appearance on MTV led to his signing with a manager. Within a year, Hedberg made his first appearance on "The Late Show with David Letterman." Since then, Hedberg has appeared on Letterman's show nine more times and become one of the most popular comedians on the scene today. addy--cady Posted April 3, 2005 Author Share Posted April 3, 2005 :( I always wanted to go see him at a show, however im only 14 and parents wouldn't permit me my wishes, as they usualy don't.
