October 21, 200718 yr No you don't need the quest. The professor will only give you the chart if you have a sextant and watch in your inventory. Strangely with WotLK so near, I wished I could delay it a bit to push through that last TBC content in MH/BT :'(.
October 21, 200718 yr you can get a new chart before starting the quest or after finishing the quest. But you can't get it during the quest for some reason. Proud owner of a Quest cape!
