Futurama
Ok, tonight i'm cleaning up my pc. I simply CANNOT reformat as theres over 20gb of data i want on here, mostly my audio apps, music collection and custom photoshop stuff and work. so that's out of the question. when you hit task manager on XP, does anyone have a list of all the stuff that *has* to be running? I'm sure theres stuff in there that doesnt... Peace and wub, futurama.
zonda
Post a HiJackThis log first, so we can see if there is any junk running that doesn't need to be. Then google up your processes, and you should find sites that have a list of processes of stuff, and it will tell you if that process is needed, not needed, a virus, spyware, ect. When you google it I think it should be like Iamnotageek.com or something along those lines... well once your at the site you can look up any process just by typing in the name into the search field (sorry if that is a little vague, but I am sure another member of this forum will be able to clarify it a little better) Also, check out http://www.blackviper.com for some awesome setups for windows 2000 and windows XP pro & home editions, his tips can elimnate uneeded processes and save you some precious RAM, which will also help you boot up quicker... sorry if I made a load of typos... lol ... blade995
we also need the top part of the log. Make sure you scan with ad-aware, and/or spybot search and destroy. Both can be googled to download them. That will get rid of any spyware you may have, and make people's jobs alot much easier.

Mercifull
Its still needed because the IE version is useful for determining how up to date your windows is ;) E:\DOCUME~1\OCUK\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis[Caution: ExecutableFile] Ok before you do anything please save Hijackthis to a perminant location such as E:\Program Files\Hijackthis\ as it will NOT create backups when run from within the zip file. Greatsilverwyrm
E:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\Stardock\SDMCP.e3e (CAUTION - executable file) I notice you have Stardock running, well thats immediatly taking up a lot of space. Anything that "skins" the desktop is going to use a large amount of RAM in comparison to one of the windows defaults. Actually that's quite untrue. Windowblinds (if he's running it.. SDMCP isn't windowblinds specifically, I believe it's the updater, can't remember for certain).. anyway, Windowblinds sometimes uses a negligable ammount more resources than the standard XP themes. Most times it actually uses less, or just as much. It also doesn't run on top of the standard XP theming, it runs in place of it. Other programs such as DesktopX may take up a good bit more RAM, but Windowblinds, Iconpackager, etc don't make much of a difference.
