My computer won't run disks

Featured Replies

OK, whenever I try to play any games involving a disk, nothing ever happens. If I try to load a game off of a disk, nothing happens. If I try to upload or burn music to a CD, it says that there is no disk in my Drive and I need to insert one.

How can I get my computer to read disks and such?

Go to Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager

Is your CD drive showing up as a device?

If its not, it will either have a yellow question mark next to its name, or it will not be listed at all.

There is no question mark so I assume it is listed as a device?

Do you see a CD/DVD drive in device manager at all? You need to be more specific.

Yes, I do see a CD/DVD drive there.

Click on it. Does it say its running correctly?

How old is it? Nowadays they are inexpensive. It just may be bad. Also open your computer...unplug the cables and plug them back in. I'm thinking it just may be bad.

Open the computer up and see if the drive is plugged in properly. If not, then I suppose it's just gone bad...they're cheap to buy, however.

Yes, it says it's working fine. It's most likely just gone bad then I think. Thanks for all your help.

Do you have a CD-ROM/RW or DVD-ROM/RW, and what type of disks are you trying to play, CD or DVD?
