Xbox - Wireless Adapter

Hiya,

I recently have been researching on what I need to buy a Xbox 360 including Xbox live. I have everything I need except the wireless adapter needed to connect to Xbox Live. To me, after all the expenses are thorugh, this has become a very pricey game system and $100 for this adapter also seems on the pricier end.

My wireless router is downstairs of where I would play the Xbox 360.

Is there any other options instead of having to buy the Xbox Adapter for $100. For instance, would it be cheaper to buy an adapter and hook the ethernet plug up to that and is that even possible?

Thanks!

Well you can if you go to any electronics store you can buy a cable that allows you to play your 360 on your computer monitor so its close to your ethernet cable. Does this help any?

Thanks for your response. I have a laptop and I would prefer to play it on my TV anyways. :(

Thanks for your help anyways. :)

i had the same problem. if u have a laptop with a wireless connection, can can bridge to use the laptop as the adapter. All you have to do is connect ur 360 to ur laptop with a ethernet cable. u can find more info about this if u google it. good luck!

If I understand correctly the 360 will be near the wireless router? There should be some ethernet hookups in the back of it, even for a wireless I would think, at least thats how mine is like. (that or plug it into the actual modem).

Your only option is direct Ethernet, or a wireless bridge ($50 average). It really ticked me off when I found out about this myself, because my router is on one end of my long home and the 360 is going to be in the other. So, I have to go out and buy a 100ft cable to make it work. I honestly believe Microsoft made a mistake to price it that high, let alone not incorporate wireless into the console itself.

Linkysys actually has a wireless gaming adapter which you can get on ebay for about 60$ and you just plug it directly into the 360 with an ethernet cord and it picks up the wireless signal and puts it through the ethernet.

Or you can spend the same amount on a 70 ft ethernet cable. :wall:

A simple wired connection is your safest, cheapest, and most reliable bet. Myself, I use a 50ft wired connection from my external modem to my 360. None of my friends use a wireless connection, seeing it has a bad rap on its connectivity.

But a curious thing one friend did is that he drilled a hole straight through the wall and floor, connecting his 360 with a mere 25ft cable. Somewhat drastic, but it helps with the multi-floor problem.

There's only a few options. Either the wireless adapter, or you plug it into your router/modem. That, or you connect your 360 to a computer monitor to make it closer to the modem/router.

Here's the xbox.com site. Hope it helps

Life is a joke. Yeah, I don't get it either.
