gaijinsama
So...the reason that I like Runescape is that I don't HAVE to kill something all the time. But unfortunately, these new updates are really getting on my nerves... Does anyone know of another game that offers cooking, smithing, crafting and the like? Something other than just killing and killing...

Bloodredsword
Hullo :P The best game I would suggest for skilling stuff is World of Warcraft. You can pretty much do anything you can do in rs...with WASD! Also its a ridiculously fun/addicting game. Listen to the mighty words of Bloodredsword. Tip it MGC Xbox live leader board! The_Sith
I have a feeling that World of Warcraft wouldn't necessarily be for you because it is heavily combat based.. but it does have a skill aspect to it, although not as involved as RuneScape's. Basically, you choose two professions (mining, engineering, tailoring, enchanting, blacksmithing, leatherworking, skinning, herbalism, alchemy) and level them up as you progress combat-wise. So you can only choose two from that list in parentheses. However, you can also pick up cooking, fishing, and first aid as secondary professions. All that means is they are available to everyone - you don't have to worry about running out of secondary profession "slots." WoW is a very involved game so there is a learning curve. It is probably something you will find on your search for another online game so hopefully my post helps you in regards to the skilling part of WoW. The skilling component of WoW can be very fun but it comes in a package - you can't run around leveling skills only without leveling combat too. But WoW's method of leveling is done almost entirely through questing (which is very fun, a lot of land to explore) so it isn't so much of a chore as it is in RuneScape. gaijinsama
Thank you for the advice...I had heard that WOW gets repetitive as you move up in lvls, but it sounds like that is really all that's out there. PS...Thanks for moving the thread =)
The_Sith
Sort of. In any MMORPG, you'll be faced with repetition. The thing about WoW that I like is that it takes a LONG time for things to actually get repetitive - at least the way I play. I enjoy taking in the scenery, the landscapes, all the computer-player/player-player interaction, and also the normal quests and skilling. It takes many days worth of playing time to even see part of the in-game world. If you have a computer that can handle it, you could try out the trial. I often find it is best to test out a game before completely accepting another person's opinion about it. Who knows... when you try it, you could come back and yell at me saying it was the worst game you ever played. ;)

Honestly, after 60 levels, I can say the game was nothing special  No idea how people get hooked on it so hardcore... The only thing I truly liked about that game is the impressive and well designed landscapes. Sometimes I'd just log in not to get XP or 'raid' with my guild, but to explore the lands, or just make a character in the opposite realm and listen to the music and stuff. But each to their own. If you're a student, or just have a lot of spare time, I suppose you could enjoy 'grinding' and other tedious 'skilling' in MMORPG's.
gaijinsama
Hmmm...There is one thing that concerns me about WOW...I have heard that it is almost impossible to solo...that you kind of have to have a group...is that true? I looked at a different thread and saw something called Lord of the Rings Online...Does anyone play that? Could you tell me about the skilling in LOTRO? Thanks all! Nadril
Thanks all! You have the complete opposite idea about WoW, it is the most solo-friendly game on the market. That being said there are many reasons to group but you really don't need to if you don't want to. The biggest thing is becomes a much more group-oriented game at 70 if you want to raid. LOTRO I have not heard much about its crafting, I assume it isn't that great. Anyways, my suggestions: World of Warcraft: Just the obvious I'm pointing out here. Large communtiy, a lot of quests and a lot to do. There are tradeskills in the game but be warned -- they aren't that involved. Of course with that being said they are much more involved than anything runescape has in tradeskills, so you can keep that in mind. Everquest II: This game is a lot like WoW, I'll put that out there. While you'll need a better rig to run this game is has a lot of simulairties, with a couple differences - - Most dungeons are not instanced, save for raid zones. - The tradeskilling in this game is much more advanced, and much more involving. If someone is really interested in tradeskilling I would strongly recommend this game. While I never actually did do much tradeskill, I did a bit and it has a lot to it that someone would enjoy. - The community, sadly, is smaller. I really haven't had a chance to recently see how large the games community is but sadly it just doesn't even stand a chance against WoW. Most of the players in game as well are generally at the max level or close to it, there are few lower level players aside from some alts here or there. - Adding onto that note, the game is a bit more group oriented. While you can still solo through up to the max level its a bit tougher at points than in WoW, leveling also takes longer as well. Those are really the only two games I've (had experience in) that has really had tradeskilling. Anarchy Online does as well but the community is small and its just not as much fun now as these other two. Comparison wise I have played Everquest II for about a total of 4-5 months while I probably have collectively played WoW for about... 7 maybe 8 months. What would I go for? Personally I would be leaning torwards WoW (its why I am playing now) just because EQII does not have a large community now. Let me tell you, however, is that if EQ II had the community a size of WoW's it would be a bit more of a difficult decision for me.
