  1. A 60-minute rain and thunder CD on repeat. Love the white noise.
  2. Just in general, it's good to have a general set of rules rather than coming up with specific ones for each situation. It only causes problems and encourages people to try and get around them with loopholes. If the staff just develops a set basic forum principles and then deals with everything on a case-by-case basis, everything should run relatively smoothly. Being a part of a community involves viewing things you do not necessarily care for or agree with; the solution to this is not to work on creating a board or finding a rule to hide these things, but to simply just move on and find something that does interest you. Edit: Note that I was not saying the staff hasn't already developed a set of core principles - that was more of a blanket statement for communities, not TIF in particular.
  3. Can you please not remove all content from your original post? It ruins the point of keeping old threads on TIF. Even though your point may have been contested or your idea may have been shot down, it would be helpful for other users to read in the future. I would have almost certainly participated in this thread had I known what was in your original post.
  4. That's awesome. Yeah, I highly doubt (read: hope) that the combat system will not be roll-based like in the RPG. I'm hoping it is more along the lines of Jedi Outcast/Academy with MMO flavor.
  5. Congrats Das - have to say it is very nice to see your name up there. Best of luck with working on clans and all of the other duties. :)
  6. It says they have five available classes. I hope the sorceress makes her return - always enjoyed playing that class. The witch doctor looks good too. It sort of incorporates some WoW Warlock-based abilities..
  7. It's become a real Catch-22. I was talking to Ard about it last night. In order to get better gear, you need to have done heroics and Kara; in order to do Kara and heroics, people require you have to better gear. It's become more prominent lately (when I last played, I mean) and people are becoming more restrictive as things progress.
  8. Haha, yeah. I'm curious about it too. Have always enjoyed Blizzard's games. Would be a real shocker if it was a Starcraft MMO.
  9. Agreed. Glad to be back. I am extremely grateful for all the time and effort the current Tip.it Staff has put into fixing and maintaining the forums. Bravo! P.S. Hi Sunli! 8)
  10. I'm not trying to get this new player to be completely prepared for level 70 raiding on his first character. We don't know that Rsautohater wants to power level through the entire game, missing all of the wonderful content Blizzard has created. My suggestion was given towards making sure he had a good time with his first character which may or may not include getting gear ASAP and bypassing all alternative leveling styles. No matter what he/she specs, there will be a learning curve; spec does not necessarily decrease time spent learning the class. I've known RS to WoW switchers who went to level 40 without even choosing a spec because they didn't know it existed. Somehow people learn the game in their own way. I merely suggested that Rs choose a more DPS-oriented approach so he does not get frustrated when killing quest NPCs at a slower rate than everyone around him.
  11. Sorry but I have to disagree about speccing prot as a Warrior. Leveling as protection as a Warrior is EXTREMELY boring - on par with leveling holy as a Priest/Paladin, resto as a Druid, etc. Go Fury or Arms. I think Fury is the better one but I've never played a Warrior. I do know that you can tank instances just fine as a Warrior specced Fury (from 1-60 at least). You will be asked to tank while leveling but it isn't necessary to spec into an eye-gouging tree to do it.
  12. Sounds like a plan. Forgot you had your rogue.. and yeah, all doors there can be lockpicked IIRC. Good luck with it!!
  13. Sweet, biox. Yeah.. dreadsteed quest sucks though. They've watered down the mats required which is nice but getting in a Scholo AND DM West run really sucks (especially when you have to run part of DM East first because no one has bothered to get the key). Try to save yourself the money and tag along with someone who has the mats. "LF Warlock with dreadsteed mats, paying 75G for DM West run" etc. That's what I did - think I paid 50g.. and the girl was doing it anyway, so she was more than happy.
  14. What extent were you suggesting then? And what part of that isn't user-friendly? I actually see this as quite feasible. I'm not about to assume I know anything and everything about phpBB coding but from what I understand, adding profile fields is an easy task - especially with phpBB3. If I recall correctly, adding profile fields is an option in the ACP itself, cutting out Albosky's role of manually coding this in. I guess hassle isn't the right word. The point I was trying to make was that if this idea is to be implemented, I think it would eventually move beyond just a simple thread on the General board.. and onto something more. At least, that's what I'd like to see it become. If we want to keep it simple and with a thread only, a large amount of effort would only be required initially, you're right. But anything beyond that (and this isn't including this idea alone) would require more staff participation on a frequent basis - something that I don't think can be spared now. Well, organizing the post and details of the project can be done by non-staff. Again, if we want to just start out simple (which we probably SHOULD...), staff intervention will not be required often. But since this idea is unique and beneficial to the community, I would like to see it go beyond its initial setup.. to hopefully something more substantial. That can be discussed later, however, if and when the project appears to be a success.
  15. I'm not a fan of consolidating topics to one thread; it vastly limits the possibilities for discussion. I support having an official, Tip.it staff-posted thread for each new update - but that's it. I do NOT support locking all other threads that try to start a discussion about said update. Most of the time, the discussion does centralize around one thread but often times, other interesting discussions can "spawn" on what would appear to be extremely similar threads. I understand with summoning and everything else that there are a lot of topics that pretty much cover the same things. But it's easy enough to wade through that and find what you are looking for; compounding all threads of the same topic into a single thread or subforum spells disaster for forum activity. It's been done before many times and the results are always the same: forum-goers have a better time, have more opportunities for communicating with other users, and participate in higher quality discussions when there is less "structure" and merging of similar topics.
  16. I don't have a huge amount of time.. but I'll post my initial thoughts: I really like the idea of having a list of people who are "social" i.e. they enjoy grouping with others, want to make new friends, etc. They don't have to just be out to help people.. although that could be part of what they want to do. Your little bio there is just fine - include your username, when you play/time zone, and what you want out of this new program. Keep it REALLY simple but make it easy for people to navigate. It's a great idea, Captain, but I don't think focusing it around the Help board (or just helping in general) will get too much attention. Perhaps having it include something about "contact" or "groups" or "friend-making"... And perhaps this could be coded into something profile related. Actually, that may be a good idea. New profile boxes that include playing times, time zone, and what they are looking for (if anything) friend/player-wise. You'd have to have a post with a list of all the people as well.. but an ideal situation would be this: you see someone posting something interesting or needing help with quest X, you click on their profile and see that they play at a certain time, are open to new friends, don't have privacy enabled, etc. Having tons of people do this is a bit idealistic but I think if the system was set up properly (integrated with the website would be even better), it could get enough attention and be something "unique" that draws people to both the Tip.it website and forums. The only problem, as Tripsis and others have mentioned, is manpower. The list would need to be updated daily at the start and quite often afterwards (both on the website and the forum if the idea progresses that far). I honestly DO think this is a great idea but *only (and I can't stress this enough) if it is executed properly and with enthusiasm. It isn't a project that you set up and then leave alone - it's an ongoing thing. And the staff has to have the motivation to pursue this project, ensure it gets implemented properly, and then watch the results and adjust things as necessary. Right now, I don't necessarily see this happening. Not trying to be pessimistic.. but people are stretched way thin as it is. And the number of people on the staff has yet to reach an ideal balance (IMO) in order to deal with the current website/forum workload, not including new projects like these.
  17. The links are messed up - he created the guide pre-2.0 when the talent trees all changed. You can't really go wrong with what talents he's listed though.. what he mentions earlier is what you should have (in his opinion at least). He is simply getting you to respec to get rid of wand spec and grab shadowform at 40.
  18. So you did it in half the time.. that's amazing. And that included requests for buttered toast! Was that all just in WPL? In some ways, I'll sort of miss spending time in Azeroth (as I enjoy leveling) but it will be nice to be able to level at a steady pace without having to spend a ton of time at it (especially since class has started up again).
  19. Sorry but why close the thread (and remove the ENTIRE first post) that had the most opportunities for more discussion? I had some ideas to post after Ard and others had replied. Grr. Sorry, that's becoming more and more a pet peeve of mine. EDIT: But to be constructive, I don't support giving users extra powers. Polls have been proven to be abused in the past. The only thing I see that would be beneficial would be the ability to edit reports. I don't really understand the huge desire to have this ability.. but at the same time, I don't understand why it wasn't available in the first place (unless I'm completely missing something here).
  20. I'm going for this personally http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/cla ... 1123051051 I don't see a need for a shorter MB cooldown with leveling - would rather have Shadow Focus. Going to follow the Shadow tree down like that until 40 and respec and take points out of wand spec and put them into darkness (leading to shadowform). So at 39, I won't have any % damage increase to shadow. But at 40, I'll have 10% from darkness and 15% from shadowform. :D Wee.
  21. I'm good at sneaking.. and poking slow people with rusty objects. :) I just know that previous attempts to get new users to participate in anything can be quite hard, especially a somewhat complex idea like this. Not like I wouldn't WANT it to work.. it's just hard to get new users to go visit a certain board, asks questions, etc. Not everyone is interested in that, especially younger users. All of this isn't even touching on the aspect of giving power/responsibility to people who can't handle it. In a case like this, if I thought someone was worthy of being a "mentor," I'd almost certainly look into integrating them into the staff (mods or crew) somehow instead, hah.
  22. Mind Flay looks like the special effect from Indiana Jones "Raiders of the Lost Ark" film.. where the power of sacred Ark is unleashed upon the Nazis who are trying to use it for personal gain (or whatever). That's how the term came about and since mind flay is a core shadow priest spell, "melting faces" was quickly adopted by the priest community.
