I wouldn't, IMO. Help/Advice is one of the boards where extreme activity is helpful. You post your question, you get an answer quickly - very little to no waiting involved. H/A was split before and it just didn't work. All the extra clicking for people who want to either ask a question or answer one just deters people from participating there.

I don't think there are enough topics for that currently BUT I think it may be a new, unique thing that Tip.it hasn't had for awhile. It may just build up its own popularity without having to rely on existing posts that would be moved there. Maybe something to try anyways... doesn't have to strictly be RuneScape related.

Gunna try those once I'm in game!

I read about that too, Chris. He didn't have any rested experience (he never logged out at inns) and pretty much did pure questing, I think. The main part was how you didn't have to grind nearly as much (if at all) during the leveling up, especially as Alliance. Questing takes care of it all. :) I'm still enjoying reading some of the undocumented things that are being released. New UD and NE inn music (minor but I like the ingame music) and Kara music too. Just have to get a character there to hear it...

Tanya is so "leet" that she doesn't need her name on the staff list. True story.

Can the flood prevention feature be reigned in?
The_Sith replied to qeltar's topic in Forum Updates and Suggestions
Sounds fair to me. I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of privilege(s) given to people who have reached a certain post count. Not any privileges that encourage people to reach a certain limit as fast as possible... but little bonuses for people who happen to participate more. Smaller flood limit/larger avatar(?) size/"Senior Member" rank for XXXX count. No flood limit/larger signature AND avatar size/"Veteran Member" for XXXX count. /shrug -
April Fools 2004 was great. The fun part was it was started way in advance - maybe a month/month and a half before the first. I think some of the "imitations" of that joke only started a week or a few days before.. so when one looked at the date of the post, it was obvious what it was. Tip.it's, though, had posts dating from a month or more back. ;) And I remember that "get your post count up here" thread was maaany pages long (I forget how many exactly). That was tremendously fun to work on.

Thaaat's right. It was definitely D-something_UK. Sheesh, you have a memory like a sponge. :) For some reason, I think the smilies came after.. but I'm not 100% sure.

And was Keiphus the one that made the signatures in the style of Meili's? Not strictly that style of course... but that certain type of sig always stuck in my head. http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/2202/meisigyp7.gif

Nice memory, Azvy. You've come up with quite a lot. I love looking back on stuff like this. I remember the media board at its peak - including that list you came up with. I thoroughly enjoyed spending my time there.. and still have multiple signatures Witty made me a long, long time ago. I tried my hand at some graphical art but I mostly just observed (for good reason). I remember Clan Discussions being at a similar peak.. and my participation there as staff. I'll always remember when Cloak(sim) invited me to become staff in Oct. 2003.. but I didn't really get a chance to know her too well, which was too bad as I enjoyed our communication before I became part of the team. I wish webarchive was a bit more expansive. Well really, I wish we had the old Scapeboard database back. I didn't really appreciate the (older) content that was on the forums--private and public--before it was too late. And yeah, Sunli easily pulled ahead of us in post count for awhile there. :)

Is Tip.it harder to quit than Runescape itself?
The_Sith replied to mrmyk's topic in General Discussion
I agree as well. I quit RS a long time ago.. haven't been on in ages. But my quitting Tip.it completely is very hard - some staffers would attest to this fact. ;) I think it is hard to leave the community, no matter how detached you feel you are. I'd say I browse this forum daily but I do not necessarily stay on it for long; I look at certain boards and then log off. I'll check them again later but I don't read it as thoroughly as I used to. Even when I was playing RuneScape, I found that I spent more time on here than I do in game. This is almost the case with WoW and the official forums there. I enjoy reading them immensely and keep up to date with the upcoming patches/changes, etc. Part of it could be due to time - it's easier to read a few quick threads than it is to log on, get going in the game, and complete something. But even when I do have an excess of time, I still find myself heading towards the forums first. Weird. :) -
Sort of an outsiders perspective but it seems like having both buying and selling would be an organizational nightmare. Mind you, this is all in game - not on some forum. I think WoW's auction house system (yes, another comparison) works fine the way it is. With RuneScape having it be cross-server, there would simply be no NEED for you to post up something that you wish to buy - you'll simply be presented with ten people selling that item at various prices.
-
Yeah.. a cross-server auction house coming up soon. I can't even imagine using it.
-
That's a good question - what is the point? How is it negatively affecting you as a forum user? It isn't happening enough to do a mass-locking on all the boards. Some people enjoy "necromancing" old threads because it gives people a chance to remember something they have since forgotten. Someone bumped up a thread in General about a huge list of old RuneScape players. Had I not seen that thread, I would have totally forgotten some of the people on that list. Not being harsh here.. just observing the situation. There are threads that are bumped without any real purpose but I guess the bumping reply can just be split off. Either way, it isn't a huge deal. Excessive use of moderator powers just because of a few select instances is not a good way to run a forum. Eventually, there ends up being too much preemptive mod work and that just isn't good for the community. That's a pretty vague statement but overall I believe in the "less is more" approach: unless there is a problem that is plaguing the forums, don't pull out the big guns to fix something.
-
It's so weird to read threads like these - I'm glad people remember things that I have since forgotten. :) Nostalgia.

For me, gore isn't so bad... it's just pop-outs. I can't stand those. Most of the time, though, you can tell when one is about to happen. Still, I don't normally watch gory movies - no desire to. The Saw series I've watched with a family friend who is sort of like an aunt/sister to me and we have a great time with it. :P I do cover my eyes a bit more than she does because I don't like pop-outs... Especially the first Saw where the guy is taking pictures with a flash to see his apartment in the dark. And then he opens the closet and takes a "flash" - didn't watch that bit, LOL. I just heard my movie companion say, "Oh my God..." We get a kick out of it. It's more the social experience/analyzing them afterwards than the actual movie content. ;)

Well, currently I'm doing back, shoulders, and triceps one day. Then legs, chest, and biceps the other. Then three-four days of running/cardio. Works out alright. Switching up the muscles I work out on particular days soon though.
-
True. But you choose to stay here and with new signups every day, it seems that people have a desire to look around. Since the number of active users isn't falling, they (the Staff) must be doing something right. :P To sort of build on my comment about polls, I wouldn't mind the users being made aware of discussions like these. I'm sure it is missed by many due to misleading topic titles and select boards in which the threads are located. But I think a poll where people simply hit "yes/no" to changes is not the correct way of gathering information and then using that information to give users "what they want."
-
Still, it was talked about earlier in the thread that people don't KNOW what they want. We give them what they want, they complain; we do something revolutionary on our own, they complain. The best way, IMO, is to get information from discussions like these - and then move forward with what was discussed and/or what the staff thinks is best. Aren't they, after all, chosen to make this community a better place? Don't we entrust them to do the right thing for the community? If it is made apparent that the wrong thing was done, we trust them enough to reverse the changes and implement something else. The benefit of threads like these is the fact that people who care about what happens to the community take the time to post. Polls collect data from everyone, that's true, but it isn't necessarily worthwhile to gather information crucial to forum development from people who don't give a crap either way.
-
All PVE realms have a higher Alliance population. Besides, the data on WarcraftRealms for Proudmoore right now is severely Alliance-centric. It even says so there. But yeah, I'm rolling a shaman for PVE purposes anyway so I'd rather play on the higher population side anyways. ^^

Agreed with Meili. No one is going to read a 45 page thread of people who have posted their good-byes - it's just a holding ground for what could be a set of interesting threads to read. I wouldn't mind seeing a person's good-bye thread posted separately if they listed their accomplishments, how long they've been here, etc. Does it mean I will read each and every one? No. But it's better than not ever reading any.. which is what is happening in the current state. I didn't/don't understand the questionnaire move. The general F2P/P2P merge hadn't been going on long and already people were complaining about it (see my first post). Not only that but the actual activity of the board wasn't at a peak level at all. Now that the questionnaire thread were removed (which were a large part of the activity here), that entire topic "section" of this board has all but died. The activity on the subforum is very low and in turn, the activity on the main board has died down somewhat as well. If you take a look at a majority of the stickies, you'll notice that they have been there for a long time. Now take a look at the time stamp of each response. Sometimes there are three or four from one week but then they start to have one to two week intervals.. like that scam thread. Second page is from September. Had these topics been posted separately, there may have been some interesting discussion points on one or two of them. There is no WAY anything interesting can be brought up on an already created, 30-page thread which is ignored by many. I think the most successful, "pile everything into here" sticky Tip.it has had was the scam e-mail sticky. Staff would post a scam e-mail on it and people would read the new response. There have been some comments about the quality of posts and how there aren't many good topics. Maybe that's because all of the interesting topics (note: *popular* topics) are delegated to hundred-page stickies! I bet if the Staff removed the mass-post stickies and allowed people to post discussions on any topic (according to the board description), there would be more opportunities for intelligent discussion.. simply because there is more of a chance to pursue controversial/popular ideas. It seems that people want to: 1) pick and choose what they read, moving everything else into a sticky/subforum and 2) expect intelligent, mature discussion from the watered down remains. IMO, if everyone is agreed on the goal of having more mature/thought-out discussions, the solution isn't to pile all the most-discussed items into one place - it should be the opposite. If you give people a chance to post on something that interests them, they will most likely post something that is more entertaining to read.

Sweet - well maybe we'll do that then. Proudmoore is PVE, PST, good population... :) I already have a level 3 shaman there reserving a name. :P
-
Personal preference I guess. Plus it gives me more time to think. =P
-
Ahh, right. Well here is sort of what is going through my head at the moment: Blackrock is my Horde server (PST - PVP). Have my "main" there with 3K gold (60 warlock/64 mage). Would be handy to have the money but either way. As far as an Alliance server, I don't really have one - I was thinking Aerie Peak. Good population, PVE, and PST so good latency for me. That or Proudmoore where I have a friend who wouldn't mind rerolling either.. another PST server. How do US time zones affect you, biox? @darkmage: Yeah, I'll let you know if/when I do reroll and where. I haven't decided yet and am definitely waiting until 2.3 is released. :) EDIT: To clarify, I'm sort of leaning more towards a BE pally. I definitely enjoyed playing my pally before but when I hit Outland, I went holy immediately which I think was a mistake.. and was why I gave up on it. I find Shaman interesting as well but I'm not sure which I would prefer. The class would be for end-game healing. And that Charger/BE tabard sort of tips the scales.. :P
-
I'm pretty much the same way except by myself - no one to share in my madness. :P I've gone from faction to faction many times.. same with race. Right now, the conflict is: Draenei Shaman vs. Blood Elf Paladin for 2.3. I love the BE race/starting zones/capital city. At the same time, I enjoy some of the Alliance zones (Draenei areas are nice but not essential) like Elwynn, Darnassus, etc. As far as Outland goes, I far prefer the Draenei-style "bases" compared to the hut/troll/orc style that the Horde has. Telredor > every place else Bleh, so complicated. But yeah, I do a lot of rerolling. Working on a BE lock until 2.3 (at 60 now).
