  1. Thank you to everyone who participated in the discussion. The changes discussed will be made later tonight along with a detail posting of what exactly was adjusted. Cheers!
  2. I like the idea of adding more templates but a lot has to be customized per template - it isn't just drag and drop. I'd rather Albosky be spending time on board updates, modifications, etc. than new themes. I think we all would want to see some more added but right now, Albosky's plate is pretty full. Olympus is coming out (soon? probably not) but it includes a totally different theme-styling system - so the old themes don't work. If/when we do upgrade to that, we'll be sure to have a wide variety of themes installed.
  3. Hmm albosky uses it all the time when he hates my ideas. *runs*
  4. I haven't discussed this with anyone really but I was thinking about making this category in a bit of a better place. How about we move RuneScape news to a subcategory of the new General discussion board - but again, revert it back to just a reference place (archive-type). Except each news item has a link to the new, staff-posted discussion of the days updates. People will post their own but at least we would have a designated one. Then perhaps make Forum Discussion/Suggestions a subforum of Announcements and then make Website Corrections its own board beneath that along with a subcategory for Suggestions/Ideas. Something along those lines so this Community category isn't left at the bottom??
  5. I agree with a lot of your points - many of them are USER based changes though. And I have to say those will be harder to implement. Things like not encouraging spammers by responding to threads with comments like, "This is spam!" - in an ideal forum, people wouldn't do that. I'm not sure there is too much we can do to change users; stickies and announcements only do so much. Goals/Achievements - I'd be for posting a sticky asking users to please include pictures (and a link to the picture help thread). I don't think a rule should be placed - we're trying to loosen up around here, not make people afraid to post. Gen P2P/F2P - Just because a topic has a question in the title doesn't mean discussion cannot spark out of it. I've seen quite a few interesting responses to those types of threads/questions. Again, this is kind of discouraging discussion and thread creation. Unless a certain type of topic is dominating a board, I'd rather not outlaw it. Discussion appears in many different types of threads. Screenshot - Again, people will only read stickies and announcements so much. ;) We recently added an easy image hosting system but people like to rush through things. They can't be bothered to do the proper investigating and want things to be handed to them on a silver platter. IMO, this is part of the package when you deal with a younger community - just something you have to deal with. Tip.it Events - Again, this is sort of up to the users. If you have any ideas about board placement.. please post. I feel the current placement and purpose of the events board has somewhat diminished since its creation. ---- As I said, good ideas, Zot. Please post if you have any more.
  6. Ordered it Tuesday I think. The parts come Monday - the case is here already. Pretty sweet. I'll post on Monday when it is all setup. :D Can't wait to try WoW at 1920x1200.
  7. There are many smilies out there for PhpBB boards. I like the idea of having more contests and community involvement but I don't think smilies are the best "media."
  8. I didn't even think about merging Graveyard H/A with regular H/A. I was thinking about merging Graveyard with Graveyard H/A but not the regular question board. Hmmm... Maybe merge Graveyard H/A with Graveyard and just let people post questions where they like? Graveyard attracts a different audience than regular H/A - if people feel the need to contact the normal Graveyard viewers, they can post on the Graveyard board. If they don't KNOW about Graveyard and want other posters, they can just post in Help/Advice. Not the neatest way but it doesn't force people to post somewhere if they are targeting a certain audience.
  9. WSG is great but I really dislike when people decide to drag the game out by turtling. Someone mentioned having the flags reset after say 15 minutes - what do you guys think about that? Overall though, I do agree it is a very fun battleground. Bring on Azshara Crater!
  10. Merge it, I think. It should get more attention as a subforum than being way down on the list. Now to fix Varrock Library >.>
  11. Global moderators can moderate any of the boards on the index. Usergroups can also be assigned to moderate a certain board but the usergroup name does not appear under the "Moderator:" list on the board.
  12. I agree with Pokemama on this one. We get enough complaints about moderators from users who think they know best about "quality people" - think what they'll say if we give a rank to someone they see "unsatisfactory." I'd like to see rank contests brought back. They were easy enough to run and people had a lot of fun participating in them. Maybe a monthly contest hosted on the new merged General board (hehe). Global announced though.
  13. A poster misunderstood what I meant about active participants in the General board(s). I wasn't insinuating that high post count means your opinion matters more - rather, I was encouraging people who DO participate on Gen P2P/F2P to post their comments about their experiences. Everyone is a "poster" in my book - and being active means you browse the boards at least weekly; replying to threads is not required. Please consider a few things re: general boards: - Descriptive titles. What's to stop people from adding a [F2P] tag to their topic title if they wish to differentiate themselves from the P2Pers? - General F2P's activity. The board pales in comparison to the P2P board. Look at the threads per page - General F2P has some from Monday (almost Sunday); P2P has some from late Tuesday (yesterday). Merging them won't cause this influx of threads, pushing aside the P2P threads. - Regarding activity and locks. Again, both P2P and General both have locked threads. Merging the boards would increase activity and move the locks past page one, leaving only discussion-worthy threads on the main page. The fact that the threads aren't moving that quickly on either board really shows that the merge won't be as drastic of a change as people think. Combining the boards will NOT lose the thriving threads that people are talking about. The whole idea of having one board where the activity is much higher than any place else is the fact that users and their responses keep the interesting threads that people like reading alive. The forum is fast paced but at the same time, the topics people enjoy are always visible. General P2P can afford to have General F2P's topics added to it--and still maintain a healthy level of activity with the popular/interesting threads staying visible. I find that there are interesting topics in both boards that could go either way, as they deal with RuneScape (not members, not free). Combining the boards would also improve POST QUALITY. Those complaining about quality on either board. Lack of new things to post about may be a factor. But I think it's the fact that the boards are moving slower than they ever have before. Even the slowest board on ScapeBoard (a long time ago) had posts 24 hours old spilling onto page two. The staff has split up the index so much that people are noticing the crappy threads more than they ever have before. This is probably the strongest reason to merge the boards - to keep quality at a maximum. I'm not sure I understand how it would be harder to sift through discussions. Look at the topic titles and decide what topics you think are interesting. Right now, you can take a look at the first page in under ten minutes and know all the threads. With the addition of more activity to a single board, you'll be more likely to find new, exciting threads posted when you come back. This is not to say General P2P/F2P does not have interesting threads on them currently. But it will be more likely that you will see MORE interesting threads posted on a daily basis rather than simply skimming P2P for that one thread you want to see replies on. Keep your mind open and focus on what would actually change the community. Maybe this setup isn't the ideal one - that's fine. But keep in mind that a lot of admins/staff have been at Tip.it for many years now - we wouldn't recommend changes if we didn't think it would improve the overall nature of the community. And while a lot of our previous updates may not have gotten rave reviews to start, they were certainly appreciated as time went on and the changes' usefulness came to light. It's our job to think for the future and what would serve the community best.
  14. To be honest, I really don't understand the need to have a separate F2P and separate P2P board - can one of the more active posters on those boards explain that to everyone? The reason the merge was suggested was because the fact that there are many GENERAL runescape discussion threads and very few actual F2P-ONLY threads. The only real area I see a need for F2P separation is in the Rate This forum, not in the discussion area. Most of the threads posted in General are not, in fact, F2P based at all - but rather "general" topics regarding RuneScape (activity increase, magazine mentions, discussion of website changes, etc.). Look at the first page - I don't even see one mention of F2P at this point. I see a thread thanking Kiara for her hard work, I see a thread about collections, I see a funny forum thread post. Right now, it seems that General is not necessarily the place for F2P discussion but rather the dumping ground for introduction posts and general Tip.it discussion (without having to venture into Off-topic boards). Another big factor that plays in the merge of general is activity. After participating on several non-RuneScape communities, the forums I liked the best had one "General" discussion board that moved VERY fast. The users would decide (by bumping/replying) which threads were the most interesting and should stay alive. The spammy/nooby threads were pushed to the second (and onwards) pages and that was that. Something to think about. ;)

  16. Upcoming change list: - General boards - Merge General F2P and General P2P, removing the ambiguity of both boards that has existed for a long time. This will also create a more active chat environment which will eventually lead to higher quality threads (natural selection of sorts) and a more exciting browsing experience. - Help boards - Revert back to one forum: no subforums. Again, create a more active posting environment. Post your question in a new thread, receive an answer, and go. - Clues board - Remove/merge into the Help board. It was originally created when RuneScape clues were first released. Now that clues have been in the game for a long time, the board's purpose has diminished. - RuneScape Classic boards - Merge RSC General and RSC Graveyard. The activity in the boards is way below any of our other boards. Relocated to new RuneScape category. NEW RuneScape category - Rather than having two RuneScape-based categories, there will now only be one. -- General Discussion -- Archive of Wisdom -- Help & Advice -- Rants -- BlogScape -- RuneScape Bugs and Suggestions -- RuneScape Classic -- Marketplace ------------------- Please post constuctive commentary only. Try to be as specific as possible! Note that Tip.it staff will not respond to each and every response made but all opinions and ideas WILL be discussed by the Staff.

  18. Yeah, that's what I figured. See how it runs and then purchase more if necessary. =] Thanks again for your help Nad - and everyone else who posted.
  19. Just ordered! Case Mobo HD (Stuck with 7200RPM - 10000 was a bit more than I wanted to spend) Vid. Card CPU DVD-RW Drive RAM Power supply
  20. Don't apologize - people have tech problems that last longer than six days. It sounds like it was an ongoing issue anyways.. no harm done.
  21. I think you're safe with a mage. Try not to burn out though - these races to 70 (or whatever level you want) tend to burn people out. It's "fun" at the time or whatever but there's no reason trying to impress other people by leveling fast if you're just going to quit the character once you reach that goal. Enjoy your leveling experience. I learned that the hard way on a few characters.
  22. Cheers Nad. I talked to Albosky a bit and actually arrived at the same video card choice - very reasonable it seems and fast! Regarding RAM, is 2GB reasonable? Or 4 for sure? I really appreciate your time.. thanks!
  23. It sounds like a good project actually. I do want the video card to be the top of the line - the way it sounds, I'd still be saving money by building my own. 2000 was the upper limit - if we can stick with the video card and go lower, that would be awesome. I'd appreciate any input at all!
