The admins at Tip.it thought we'd give you an update on an important part of the Tip.it community, the Tip.it forums. After going through a lot of user feedback, we have drafted some changes to the index and forum structure that should provide for a better browsing experience. To read more about these changes, please participate in the discussion going on in the Forum Suggestions board. The thread will be kept open for about a week. After the week has passed, the Admins will review all opinions posted and, in conjunction with the other Tip.it staff members, finalize the ideas and implement the changes. Thank you for your time and for your help in making Tip.it the best RuneScape fansite ever! Upcoming change list: - General boards - Merge General F2P and General P2P, removing the ambiguity of both boards that has existed for a long time. This will also create a more active chat environment which will eventually lead to higher quality threads (natural selection of sorts) and a more exciting browsing experience. - Help boards - Revert back to one forum: no subforums. Again, create a more active posting environment. Post your question in a new thread, receive an answer, and go. - Clues board - Remove/merge into the Help board. It was originally created when RuneScape clues were first released. Now that clues have been in the game for a long time, the board's purpose has diminished. - RuneScape Classic boards - Merge RSC General and RSC Graveyard. The activity in the boards is way below any of our other boards. Relocated to new RuneScape category. NEW RuneScape category - Rather than having two RuneScape-based categories, there will now only be one. -- General Discussion -- Archive of Wisdom -- Help & Advice -- Rants -- BlogScape -- RuneScape Bugs and Suggestions -- RuneScape Classic -- Marketplace ------------------- Please post constuctive commentary only. Try to be as specific as possible! Note that Tip.it staff will not respond to each and every response made but all opinions and ideas WILL be discussed by the Staff. Macmaster92 Posted June 20, 2007 Share Posted June 20, 2007 Well i think that the General and General P2P should stay seperate. It would be very very hard to have to sift through all of the topics. Also the topics would end up on the second page more often which again leads to it hard to browse. So in conclusion it would be to hard to sift through the seperate disscusions. Also if i want to read about Ftp stuff i can just go to ftp. The Sub forum change seems fine also. I liked it how it was before. One thing that i might add as a sugestion is make it able for us to view our signature in our profile so that when we edit it we don't need to look for one of our posts. I don't find this idea would be of much help. I like the way it is now. :) I like the way the Help & Advice forum is in seperate categories, makes it easier to find/make topics in there; like the way the Player made guides is. Also, as Macmaster92 said, I would like it so that you can view your signature in your profile. Something like the 'preview post' when making a post on a thread. The main reason why I think removing the subforums is a good idea is that only a small percentage of people actually use them. The main Help & Advice forum is supposed to be for miscellaneous questions that don't fit into any of the subforums. Take a look at all the threads in that forum that should have been placed in a subforum.. nearly all of them :wall: If people actually used the subforums, that'd be great. But as of right now, many people are not, which causes a huge increase in moderation on our part. Just giving people that to think about. On most forums i've seen it's just " general " without p2p and f2p, and it's been proven to as you said, make better quality threads. I like the decreasing of sub forums, it was gettin to complicated. I remember before i signed up again for tip.it, last summer with my old user the forusm were great\un complicated. If they were, I imagine many people would be having a hard time finding a post of their specific playing type (not sure what words to use there?). The_Sith Posted June 20, 2007 Author Share Posted June 20, 2007 To be honest, I really don't understand the need to have a separate F2P and separate P2P board - can one of the more active posters on those boards explain that to everyone? The reason the merge was suggested was because the fact that there are many GENERAL runescape discussion threads and very few actual F2P-ONLY threads. The only real area I see a need for F2P separation is in the Rate This forum, not in the discussion area. Most of the threads posted in General are not, in fact, F2P based at all - but rather "general" topics regarding RuneScape (activity increase, magazine mentions, discussion of website changes, etc.). Look at the first page - I don't even see one mention of F2P at this point. I see a thread thanking Kiara for her hard work, I see a thread about collections, I see a funny forum thread post. Right now, it seems that General is not necessarily the place for F2P discussion but rather the dumping ground for introduction posts and general Tip.it discussion (without having to venture into Off-topic boards). Another big factor that plays in the merge of general is activity. After participating on several non-RuneScape communities, the forums I liked the best had one "General" discussion board that moved VERY fast. The users would decide (by bumping/replying) which threads were the most interesting and should stay alive. The spammy/nooby threads were pushed to the second (and onwards) pages and that was that. Imagine, though, trying to browse through the new general forums with that stuff in there also. IT would be very hectic. An example of this would be when Video games were in off topic and not a sub forum. It was hard to look through everyting. Now its alot better. You merge them and the ones that waste space will be pushed down quickly. Will also make it easier to have bigger discussions as most of the things in each forum dont have anything in particular to F2P or P2P. Whatpulse! The reason why they were made, will probably spark up again after they're taken down. So keep the sub-forums that are active, or make them their own respectable forum. The sig viewing is probably a feature these boards need to keep up with other runescape boards... Macmaster, locking our own posts will create havoc. Have you seen the official forums? Frankly I don't like your elitist insinuation there. Just because someone has less money/time, or is more miserly, than us, doesn't mean that they spam or are any less intelligent. I do see a merge as the way to go. A faster forum is neccessarily better, as more people will post, and better threads survive. I also see it as being the most contentious change. And if they don't merge, at least rename it 'General F2P'. Can I make a request for a 'Quick Reply' option, if that is possible technically. DarkDude Posted June 20, 2007 Share Posted June 20, 2007 Rename General to "Runescape Crappy topics" and Rename General P2P to "Runescape discussion" This would mean that all the crappy semi RS based posts which are populating both boards and have increased in the last couple of months making these boards unbareable at time go in the " rappy topic forum and the PROPER runescape p2p discussions and the like in the Proper board for it.
