OFFICIAL: Upcoming Tip.it Forum Changes

Recommended Posts

I think it would be a good idea to merge general and P2P boards as it will increase the quality of posts. One suggestion however, can we not have debate club as a seperate board as I really like it but no-one ever seems to be on it which makes it slow to get feedback on your idea. If however, it was made into its own board, it is more likely that people would see it and join in with the debates (which are generally, quite good)

I like all the proposals exccept the f2p/p2p merge one

As people say the sheer volume of threads on each would make it far harder to browse if merged.

Plus without the segregation it is harder to post threads that are aimed atone sole player base

eg my old Bronze is rare!?! thread was pureply commenting on in members worlds. If in the f2p or combined board it would been far more spammed by f2p people who missed the point of it saying in members.

Where as with the segregation there was only 1 post over the 4 or5 pages that mentioned f2p

Most of these sound okay to me, but I am strongly against merging the P2P and F2P boards, you all state how few F2P only threads there are, but think about the sheer number of P2P only. If anyone from F2P comes on the forum, they're going to be sorting through 99% P2P stuff that doesn't even apply to them.

The F2P board may not have alot of F2P only related threads but that the General P2P board has alot of threads that only P2P members will benefit from reading.

When im on here I spend most of my time in the General P2P area because the topics in there (generally) apply to me, or atleast get me interested, the stuff in the General F2P board may interest others (mainly F2P players) but does not interest me (usually)

General & P2P Merging

If you look at all the threads on the first page of in General F2P, none of them really apply to just F2Pers and already have P2Pers posting on there anyway. So could all easily be part of P2P discussion without much of a difference.

Help and Advice

I never really posted on H&A boards before they were divided, but since I have been posting alot there recently I have noticed that a lot of the topics are in the wrong forum anyway. So it would be a lot less work for everyone to merge them back together.

Its logical for for forums like the Player Made Guides forum to be subforumed, as it make it a hell of a lot easier to look for a guide when you need one, but this is not an advantage for H&A and would make a lot more sense to keep all the help topics in one forum.

Clues Board

I have always thought this was a pointless forum anyway, as the guide on the Tip It site covers anything you would ever need to know about rewards/what to do etc. and all the other random event topics could go into General Discussion.

So overall, I guess I would welcome all the changes.

The rest seem fine other than, you guessed it, merging the F2P P2P. Hell would break loose. The whole P2P superiority complex would return, a thread would dissappear as quick as they do on the official forums, it would just get ugly.

I think the f2p and p2p boards should be rearranged. currently, general p2p is ok. however, general has more random discussions than p2p discussions. I suggest that murge the forums into 2 renamed ones:

1.Runescape discussions. This board is basically for decent discussions on the forums where people get training advice etc.

2.General topics these are for those general discussions "whats your fave item?" and things that ask questions that really don't benefit anyone ingame.

I guess I agree with the merging of F2p and P2p boards, but I'm just hoping there wont be an increase in flaming people because they're F2p/P2p.

And I definatly support the removal of the Help & Advice subforums, never liked the idea when it was first implemented, I doubt many people used to go through each subforum to answer people's questions, sticking to one page for all the questions seems much more fair on the people needing help.

Can I make a request for a 'Quick Reply' option, if that is possible technically.

Already been discussed, and it came to a no do.

I'm happy with everything, and if the General/ General P2P boards don't go well, we can pull them back apart.

i think we should keep the F2P and P2P forums apart but i also think that warren's idea is a good one. i see a lot of topics like "wats ur fave weapon?"(i've made a few myself  ) on the the F2P forum, but i don't really think it's a deep discussion thread. you could make a forum for serious discussions of RS, and one for not so serious discussions.

I think the General F2P and P2P biurds should be merged, after all a lot of P2P stuff is discussed in the F2P section, and I do think that nobody realy payed any particual attention to the fact they were different, seeing as the F2P board was already just called 'general'!

I think the 'Player Made Guides' should be kept as a normal forum, rather as a subforum as it has recently changed to.

As most people are saying, I would not like F2P and P2P combined. I'm a pure F2Per and I hate reading about P2P. <.<

And about what you said, Sith. " Can one of the more active posters explain this..." It's quality not quantity. -.- :shame: =; :x

Try and make the clan discussion boards more appealing and active?

ie setting up a list of top 10 clans or something so clans have a reason to post/discuss things there

Rune Tips isn't a clan site, those forums are mostly there for recruiting. Your clan should have their own forum for bigger discussions.

Lets try and keep this thread open for commentary on the proposed changes. You are quite free to start a new topic if you have other suggestions. (ie sig width/preview, clans etc) :)

Remember people, if the changes are implemented and all hell did "break loose" then we would notice this and rectify the problems. We are trying to enhance your browsing experience not make it worse.

Even though some things aren't listed in these proposed changes doesn't mean they aren't still in discussion. Now on to a few random things without diverting this topic too far off the things mentioned.

We're currently working on that. Trust me, it's involved and will take a little while.

There have been a few mentions of self-locking and deletion. Short answer: it will not happen. Even Mods and Admins don't go deleting posts (we remove them from view) so you can bet we won't be letting users do this. It boils down to users locking their topic when they are out debated. The deletion won't happen because we'll have people delete their rule-breaking post before we see it.

Regarding the General merge, I don't think people realize how much overlap there is in both. In a staff discussion a while back, I tried to make a point about all the Non-P2P threads in General P2P. At the time I did a count there were 25 topics I could have moved to General F2P out of the 100 on the first 2 pages. My only reason for not doing a mass move was I didn't want to hear the complaining that would have happened.

As it is at this moment, posts on Gen P2P over a 24 hour period don't even span the first page. There are 46 topics on the first page of Gen P2P minus the stickies. 5 of the topics of locked. Another 5 are shadows of moved topics. Now here's the best one: There are currently 15 topics additional in General P2P that I should move to General F2P.

So to recap, 25 out of 46 available topic positions could be removed from General P2P and even with them the first page still has topics that are 36 hours from the last post. F2P currently includes 5 locks and 4 shadows and has posts on the first page over 60 hours old (2.5 days).

Can someone explain how this is so active that a merge will make the board run too fast?

As many people said before, I don't think it's a good idea to make general F2P and P2P one forum.

I do think that's it's a good idea to remove some of the subforums and make them into normal forums.

I like all of the ideas The Sith.

Anyways, I'll put my input in on each matter...

General Help and Advice!

By seperating the forums, it eliminates a lot of confusion throughout the boards. The mods will also have to do a lot less work! Also, by making the Help and Advice forums merged again, it will keep all the actualy "questions" on top, ones that are mature and well though out. The other questions that couldbe found within 5 seconds on the Tip.It main page would float to the bottom never to be seen again. Since the board has gone into subforums, there has been a decrease in the ammount of people wishing to post answers to everyones questions there. I believe this is because the Help and Advice at the moment is a little maze like, thus, some people don't wish to mess with the trouble if they are just trying to help someone! By eliminating the subforums, it will releave a lot of stress on the mods, and make it less intimidating to post there. It's a win win! :D Also, not so long ago I noticed that some people who couldn't get an answer in the correct subforum would post their same topic in the fornt page of help and Advice. Why? because it is rare to get a good answer in any of the subforums. The process is just too slow that many only go to the first page of Help and Advice, they don't bother to go any furthur.

General P2P and F2P board MERGE

Once again, the most popular threads will stay on top, the other threads that are useless will float to the bottom and at a quick pace. By combining the two, you create less work for mods once again! They don't have to flip through the two every now in then to sort out all the bad topics. The mods also won't have to switch back and forth between the two forums, it's all right there! I have also seen people specifically post things in General P2P that belong in the General section. In their title they put, "KEEP IN P2P." They knew it was in the wrong section, but to get more publicity, they took the risk. Because of this "risk", the mods have to do a lot of extra work locking or moving threads to where they properly belong due to people wanting to see some limelight!

-----------------------------------------------------

Clues Forum

The Clues forum is just a tadbit out of date. It's rare to good real discussion going on there, and when it is, it would be better suited in the General sections instead. This is because the threads in there show discussion, nothing that's any different than any other topic in the General forums. Clues should just move right on into the General forum!

PS

Feel free to lock my thread concerning this the Sith so it eliminates some confusion!

Thanks! :D

Well i think that the General and General P2P should stay seperate. It would be very very hard to have to sift through all of the topics. Also the topics would end up on the second page more often which again leads to it hard to browse.

So in conclusion it would be to hard to sift through the seperate disscusions. Also if i want to read about Ftp stuff i can just go to ftp.

The Sub forum change seems fine also. I liked it how it was before.

One thing that i might add as a sugestion is make it able for us to view our signature in our profile so that when we edit it we don't need to look for one of our posts.

I very Strongly agree to both of the ideas

Why not actualy mod the board then? I'm sick and tired of all the crap topics polluting General P2P. 6 or so months ago the boards were fine, since then there's been a huge increase in these crap topics. "Favourite ___" "If RS3 was made what would you do" and crap like that. Before it had ACTUAL discussions believe it or not based on Runescape. Discussing things such as new methods on monster killing and topics that were about the actual gameplay of the game not crap that no one cares about and people only post in to get their post count up.

I disagree with:

merge general and general p2p

recombine help & advice

Merging the General Forums:

Looking at the two forums, we can clearly see a significant difference in theme between the threads in General and General P2P. Whereas General P2P deals most often with recent update and changes, General usually harbor older, more general-interest threads such as Tipit Time, community discussions, and quest-answer threads.

I believe this setup have been successful because it allowed two categories of topics to thrive: one that dealt with upcoming, current events that gather momentum fast but lose it as soon as the next update come along (aka implings); and the other slower, but more ongoing discussions that can survive and thrive for months or years (any hot topic threads).

If we were to combine these two forums, something have to give -- we'll probably lose many of the interesting, ongoing topics that reside in General. If clarifying the forums' purpose is the goal, why not simply clarify the forum descriptions? If that's not enough, why not change General P2P to Update discussion?

Help & Advice:
