Rogue* - warning you before people notice you say that in game. Rouge = make up/blush. :P

Currently playing WoW. Working on a 51 Blood Elf warlock. I'm totally ahead with my questing "schedule" so I will pretty much be able to get to 60 in Azeroth and skip the entire of EPL/Winterspring/Silithus and other crappy zones. Also have enchanting and tailoring as professions which are both new to me, so it's a fun experience. Have also been playing on the 2.2 public test realm - most recently a Resto druid (ToL form). I quite enjoy it. I'm hard to take down but most of the time, they don't focus fire me.. I really like the HoT aspect as you can run around and heal without having to stand still. Still, playing a druid to 70 JUST to go Resto seems like a pain. Perhaps I'll wait until 2.3 is released and the leveling rate is adjusted. Also playing Jedi Academy off and on - mostly single player. Multiplayer games are almost always clan channels and I feel so out of place. But overall, the amount of people playing the game has severely diminished. Plus, nine times out of ten in fights I get into with players, they just force grip me and flip-kick me to death. Not sure how to get out of that one besides having a light side power.

I'm not sure where this conspiracy thing came from... totally pulled out of nowhere. Perhaps it can end after this post. At any rate, I'd rather focus on congratulating the new staff members. Well done - you deserve it. Enjoy your time in Staff. You're working with a bunch of great people. -
Nice darkmage, you're nearly at Outland! Don't worry about gear.. just plow through those quests and get there ASAP, lol. As far as spec goes, once you begin to gather decent +dmg, you'll want to have 5/5 Empowered Fireball as that is a great talent. Here's something I did real quick: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=of0VZxgMzbcfoeot I had 10/0/51 as my spec awhile back and the reason 3/5 Arcane Focus is so your polymorph doesn't get resisted for instances. Other than that, I'm not the best on Fire builds really, lol. Just know about the Empowered Fireball thing - still, it isn't a big deal really. You may even want to respec Frost for the Outland leveling for extra survivability. But fire is hard to get rid of - love those ignites. :D I'd also recommend getting tailoring/enchanting to 300 before entering Outland - at least Enchanting if possible. ^^

Hey Speed. :) Well first off, I think you made a good choice with Draenei as far as racials go. Gift of the Naaru can be very handy when soloing. As far as spec, I found a bit of a handy guide for leveling: http://www.tankspot.com/index.php?pageid=OfSteel-Guide You don't have to follow this though. For me, I always believe that one's first character on WoW is sort of a transition character that you will later not play (but maybe that's just me being weird, lol). When I was playing my first human mage in 2005 with Wistan, I learned a lot in a short period of time about the game and its intricacies. I later decided to reroll a Gnome mage and started fresh. You don't have to do this though. I do recommend doing what Blue said - just enjoy the game, absorb the content. There's nothing like experiencing the game for the first time - don't let the experience go to waste. You can take a look at http://www.thottbot.com for quest and instance information but other than that, just take it easy. Enjoy the beginning instances like Deadmines and Shadowfang Keep, etc. Enough of the preaching... actual concrete advice: I would recommend having professions. If anything, choose two gathering professions to make money - it helps later on when trying to get your first mount. It's become apparent that blacksmithing is a good choice for weapons at end game but that is far, far away and can be an annoying profession. Maybe try something fun like Mining/Engineering.. or another choice. It's good to grab your professions as soon as you reach level 5/move to the next town in the beginning zone. Especially for gathering professions, you need to be sure you are at the appropriate profession level for that zone so you do not come across a ton of nodes/herbs/animals you cannot gather (if you see nothing but red as far as gathering professions go, you need to go back to earlier zones and level up the skill). Don't worry about it too much though - you can always go back to the previous zones and quickly get your levels up! Fine armor so far. You get some blue leggings from running Deadmines (the main questline, I mean... see thottbot.com). There are two chances to get a good 2H axe in Deadmines as well. Blue brought up a good point - don't waste too much time worrying about armor leveling up. A lot of it will come through quests. Do not spend money/hours at the Auction House.. it's a waste until level 70. However, if you do find yourself wanting to get gear upgrades, instances are a good place to look (see thottbot for loot). Don't get too involved in one piece though - you could use that time to level onwards. :) Anyways, as was said, just enjoy the game to its fullest. Do what you want to do. Don't let people determine how you spend your gametime (including my post). I think the best thing about starting a new game is not getting a step-by-step playing guide from other players but discovering how you want to play it through internet exploration and in-game exploration as well.

They haven't yet. Game sites have the release date listed but that doesn't mean it is official whatsoever. I'm thinking mid-2008 but that's a total random guess.

Yeah, from my point of view, it is entirely possible to go from 1-60 now. It's just that for people who don't know the quests well, don't DO all the quests, or prefer not to run all over the continents, a lot of leveling is either instance grinding or just plain grinding. Compare that to Outland where you don't leave a zone until you have done a huge amount of quests.. and rerolling can seem like a real pain. I do think the only problem now is the lack of concentrated quests per zone. If you take a look at the level ranges, there are enough quests to get by and go on - but they're so spread out! Leveling time would be cut by a serious amount if the quests were more concentrated and didn't require you to go back and forth between Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms. With the addition of Shattrath City though, getting between continents has become a bit easier so long as you plan correctly. The way Jeff Kaplan described Dustwallow, it sounds more like it is becoming an Outland zone, quest-wise. Right now, the Horde have the majority of quests in Dustwallow with Deadmire (a hunting quest) and the mini-chain of quests involving dragons and dueling this elite ogre inside Brackenwall (not to mention the chain where you get a blue ring at the end of it). Theramore i s pretty much devoid of quests unless you walk outside to One-Eyed Jarl or decide to go to 1k Needles to do ONE quest. So Mr. Kaplan said that they're adding a lot of quests to both Brackenwall and Theramore in addition to an entirely new goblin town. Out of all the zones in Azeroth, I think Dustwallow will actually become the zone where one spends the most time.. at least from what I've read between the lines.

Not sure if easiest is the best word. Less tedious sounds more appropriate. Tigole/Jeff Kaplan said that 1-60 difficulty was fine when the game was expansionless. Now that there is BC and soon WotLK, they want to make it better for rerollers and new players so they can access the new content. He pretty much said flat out that 35-45 is when everyone burns out, which is why they are adjusting Dustwallow marsh (sounds like they're adding a lot of quests there) and increasing the amount of XP gained from quests. 20-60 is totally doable now but I think for new players, it is very easy to get tired of it at midlevel and not go beyond that.
-
Ohhhh and also really cool - they're removing a lot of the elite quests in Azeroth! Mentioned specifically: Stromgarde, Ogres in Alterac Mountains, all going to normal. That's awesome for rerollers.
-
Good news for people who like to level - they're reducing the amount of XP required per level from levels 20-60. Also, quest XP rewards are being increased by ~30%. That's a big change! Not mentioning the quest-revamp Dustwallow Marsh is receiving. EDIT: Wow, just read a new goblin town... sweet. lol

Jill of the Jungle. I've played Pong but JotJ was a game I actually played frequently. http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/download/game/113

Could someone explain the use of stop-casting macros to me please? I'm a Warlock if that helps explain things any. Do you use it for all spells.. or what?

Can you not edit out your original post text please? It doesn't help people who may have similar questions in the future.

Good luck, Biox! I sure hope the video card solves your problem. I've noticed two things that significantly decrease my performance (class performance AND computer) - latency (###ms) and FPS. For example, when I was on my laptop and in Ramps, healing was very hard at such low FPS due to the fire particle effects. I just had to bear with it until the end. As far as latency, that's why I'm on Blackrock. With my connection and on a PST server, I get an average of 45-50ms (I'm PST). On an EST server, I get 280-300ms - the difference is very noticeable! What kind of latency do you get in AU?
-
Relax - I wasn't looking to pick a fight about Blackrock. :P I meant that when I was looking to reroll, it had an even ratio, if not more towards the Alliance side. The graph looks like it fluctuates with the more "heavy" dips towards the Alliance faction. But, as I said earlier, a realm needs to have active participants in the census 'study' in order for the results to be accurate. IIRC, Blackrock has had problems with both Alliance and Horde census participants (now just Horde). Low amount of census participants = shaky information. Low amount of census participants != low population. Still, not looking to pick a fight either way... I'm comfortable with BR the way it is. =]

I just built a new computer with a 640MB 8800GTS video card and I have to say the performance is incredible. I'll list the specs I had before and after the change. 23" LCD display (I had this for both setups) Macbook Pro - 2.33GHZ C2D, 2GB RAM, 256MB ATI X1600 Resolution for normal, non-WoW use: 1920x1200 (on LCD) Resolution for WoW-use: 1600x1000 (on LCD) Framerate in Shatt - 40-50 Framerate in Azeroth zones - 60-70 Framerate in HF Ramparts (fires = decrease in FPS) - 30-35 Framerate in non-particle instances - 45-55 Settings: Quite low. Lowest anti-aliasing setting, vertical sync turned off, death effect and screen glow off, spell detail LOW (those particle effects killed my machine. ----------- 23" LCD Display Self-built computer - 2.4GHZ C2D 6600, 2GB RAM, 640MB 8800GTS Nvidia Resolution for both WoW and regular usage - 1920x1200 Framerate in Shatt - 65-75 Framerate in Azeroth zones - 90-110 Framerate in HF Ramparts - 65-70 Framerate in non-particle instances - 80-90 All of the above AT LEAST. The performance gain was extremely noticeable. As far as settings, anti-aliasing is set up to about mid.. never had it that high before. All other settings to max (except vertical sync, which I hear is nothing but a perf. decrease). Death effect, screen glow, spell detail HIGH. Terrain/texture - high. etc. etc. All of these FPS reports are at 1920x1200 resolution which is quite large. I'd imagine you'd get much better FPS if you had small resolution, say 1280x1024 or something of the like.

You sure it is ally dominated? I've settled on a realm (Blackrock - it's fairly even, high population, motto is GTFO, we're full) only because I trolled http://www.warcraftrealms.com for so long. Most of the realms have enough census participants that the realm info is somewhat reliable. I don't roll on realm whose ratio is way off-balance - mostly 1:1, 1.1:1, 1:1.1. Base this on player activity - the other numbers has to do with how many actual characters there are. But yeah, realms like Cenarion Circle with 2.2:1 Alliance to Horde ratio I totally skip. lol

I agree about looks. I think 'most people' could care less but to me it really matters. Same with race. I can't play a race I don't like, even if that race is the only choice for a class. If I realize later that one part of my character is 'wrong', it does bug me.. sometimes to the point where I no longer want to play that character. Luckily I've mastered rerolling so much, I have a set 'look' for the races I prefer to play. I'm a freak.
-
It's already been said but just to reiterate: you're paying for the game key - not the actual program. You cannot create a World of Warcraft account beyond a trial basis without a key.
-
The easiest way for the non-BC races (BC races being Blood Elves and Draenei) is to quest in their zones. i.e. Do all the 1-10 quests in Teldrassil, 11-20 in Darkshore, 20-30 in Ashenvale, Stonetalon, etc. for your tiger mount. However, since the release of BC, Exodar quest rep is severely decreased when doing the 1-10 quests at say.. 60. In comparison to the pre-BC races where you get full rep no matter the level. This was set in place because they didn't want a ton of people getting the elekk right at the start of the game (I guess anyway). So as far as Exodar rep goes, cloth turn ins at Exodar. Go to the tailor, find the yellow question mark and turn in 20 linen, wool, and mageweave. Then 20 runecloth. Then rinse/repeat until exalted.

IMO, I just want to adopt all of WoW forum's rules.. http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/forum ... c127268914 I think the fact that we have a special sticky for such things is more than lenient. :)
