New monsters, items and quest (based on Finnish mythology)

Featured Replies

I was thinking that there has been these "theme months" lately, such as this Egypt theme thingy with all the dessert quests. Jagex has said something about ice places. I counted 1+1 and got a theme from Finnish mythology, Kalevala.

Little backround info From Kalevala: (from wikipedia.org)

The main character of the Kalevala is VÃÆÃâÃâäinÃÆÃâÃâämÃÆÃâÃâöinen, a shamanistic hero with the magical power of songs. He is born of the primal Maiden of the Air and contributes to the creation of the world. Many of his travels resemble shamanistic journeys, especially the one where he visits the belly of a ground-giant, Antero Vipunen, to find the words of boat generation. He plays the kantele, a Finnish string instrument that is played like a zither. One of his kanteles is made of the jawbone of a giant pike. He never finds a wife (one of the women, Aino, drowns herself instead) and steals the Sampo, a magical mill, from the people of the north.

Other characters, some of whom have their own chapters, are Seppo Ilmarinen, a heroic artificer-smith (comparable to the Germanic Weyland) who crafted the sky dome, the Sampo and more; the Hag of the North, a shamanistic matriarch of a people rivaling those of Kalevala who at one stage pulls the sun and the moon from the sky; VÃÆÃâÃâäinÃÆÃâÃâämÃÆÃâÃâöinen's young rival, Joukahainen, who promises his sister Aino to him when he loses a singing contest; vengeful, self-destructive Kullervo who is born as a slave, goes into berserk rage and commits suicide; and handsome but arrogant LemminkÃÆÃâÃâäinen, whose mother has to rescue his corpse from the river of Death which runs through Tuonela, and bring him to life, echoing the myth of Osiris.

Some of the chapters describe ancient creation myths, a long wedding ceremony, and the right words for magical spells of healing and craftsmanship.

The quest: Return of Sampo

Sampo is a mystical machine that creates richness. It was broken when Vainamoinen stole it from the northern people and now your job is to return it to the Shamen.

A Shaman village is located at new ice area. This place can be found from north of the Fremmenik village. Talk to the head shaman there to start the quest. He tells you how Vainamoinen is going to rebuild Sampo and you should get it done before he gets it. He tells you that you need to find 3 different pieces. One is somewhere in sea, but no1(?) knows where for sure. Second is somewhere under the ground. The last one is the hardest, Maiden of the Air (Ilmatar) has it. The problem is that she is the mother of Vainamoinen.

1st part:

YOu get told that the vikings were the ones who found new lands from the west. They might have seen something weird on their trips. You head to the Fremmeniks, but no1 knows a thing about Sampo. Next visit goes to the barbarian village. Gunthor the brave tells you that he saw a mystic ray coming from the water area north from the Lighthouse.

The water area is pretty big and you have no boat or exact coordinates where to look at. You remember that you had your own boat when doing dragon slayer. Shame it got broken when you got to the crandor. Dwarves are known for their ability to fix things, so you go talk to Doric (north from Falador). He tells you that the boat can be fixed easily, but he needs a special hammer to fix it well enough to sail on those seas. He tells you he needs a wolfteeth hammer and 2 bars of Sibelium to make this hammer.

You wonder where can you get wolf's teeth which are big enough for the hammer. You heard some adventurers found a wolf temple from the Swamps of Morytania. You head there. After long maze you finally find a king wolf. King Wolf is level 156 and can be killed without any special tricks. After killing him you remember you need some Sibelium. You notice some weird rocks near the King Wolf's lair. "Thank god I remembered my pickaxe" you think and mine 2 ores of it. Sibelium needs 80 mining to be mined and 75 smithing to be smithed. 1 sibelium bar needs also 10 coals.

You bring the wolfteeth and sibeliums to Doric and he makes the nails you need to fix the ship. Now you only need coordinates and someone to sail the ship. Ned (same as in dragon slayer) is willing to sail your ship for free. You don't have the coordinates, but you decide to take a risk and sail without them.

After some sailing you see a weird purple ray. You sail near it and see how something big is rising from the sea. It's a giant pike without chin. It's angry as hell and also really big. This fish is level 256 and it has great protection against range and melee. It's time to blast some spells. After rough fight you finally manage to kill it and get the 1st part.

Part 2

Underground + hiddren treasure doesn't sound too good. You go have a talk with dwarves living in dwarven mines and find out that there has been something in Shantay caves. Some brave adventurer had found the piece, but he happened to die into those caves.

You head to the Kalphite cave (Shantay). As you run from room to room and find nothing, you get a bad feeling... What if...? Yes, Kalphite Queen. You get into her lair and gotta run through her (not kill if you don't want to :P ) to a small room. You dig with a shovel. A giant worm attacks you. This worm is level 289. After killing the giant worm you get the 2nd part. More about this worm can be found from another post in this threat. It isn't that easy to kill it.

Part 3

This one is the hardest. First you need to find Ilmatar and then somehow the last part from him. The problem is that his son is also trying to retrieve Sampo. Where is the cleanest place in whole Rs? What do you need to find a goddess? That's right, the cleanest place is in Elven Forest and you need to sacrifice. You head to the giant tree in the middle of Elven forest and burn a pair of big bones. You get teleported into a mystic lair. Ilmatar's lair.

You have a talk with her. She tells you that the evil forces are running so wildly that she would do *anything* to stop them. She tells you that an evil sorceror has built a big castle into high level wilderness. This castle is west from greater demon ruins. The door is cursed, however. It gives you a task. You have to kill the demon it tells you. It might be either an imp, a lesser demon, a greater demon or a black demon. It's random and you won't get the key if you haven't been told to kill that type of a demon. This makes it sure that the castle won't be used as a safety place among the pkers. You kill the right demon and get the key. Everytime you enter the castle you need to get an assingment, so you need to kill demons few times during this quest.

On the first floor you see a blood hungry priest. He tells you that he wants to drink the blood of a blond virgin. Without that he won't let you further (after he gets it once, he'll let you in always). You don't want to kill a virgin, but you have to get the blood. You go talk to Aggie in Draynor and get red dye. You use the dye with a waterfilled vial. It looks fine, but the smell isn't correct. You talk to the druids in Taverley and they tell you that there's a herb collect dragon breath which smells just like blood. You head to the lair of metal dragons and find a herb there. The herb is dragon's breath. You need 55 herblaw to id it and 60 to finish the potion. You add it to your vial and get the potion to the priest. He lets you to the 2nd floor.

This part is harder. You need to prove you can fight with every style. The cardinal first turns into a turtle. This one hits hard and can't be hurt with melee or ranged. You need to mage it. After it gets destroyed, it turns into an eagle. You can't reach it with your sword and your magic isn't accurate enough. You need to arch it. After the eagle falls it turns into a giant lizard. It's skin gives great magic and range bonuses, so you need to kill it with a melee. After this hippie is dead you get to the 3rd floor. (you don't have to kill these forms again when/if you later return to the 2nd floor).

3rd floor is the last one before the evil sorceror. This one might the hardest or the easiest. You need to answer right to at least 3 questions from 5. The questions can be from anything: rs related quetions, mathematical problems, geological questions, etc. You need to finish this floor everytime (even after the quest) when you want to the 4rd floor.

4rd and final room. The killer place. The lair of horror. In the beginning of this floor there are 3 black dragons. You don't have to kill them, but the narrow path makes it sure you have to taste their breath. It's a multizone btw. Then comes eagles (range prefered to kill these beasts) which are on single zone. You gotta kill at least one to get an eagle feather. Now you meet a black demon which is guarding a coffin. You kill the demon and reach the coffin. With the feather you picklock the coffin and a sorceror comes.

The Sorceror is level 300 and fighting with magic and drains your prayer. This means that range armour is a must or you're wasted before the sun rises. After you kill the evil sorceror, return to Ilmatar (Elven forest, remember to sacrifice big bones) and you'll get the last part. Complete Sampo and head to the head shaman.

This armour might be really useful in staking or pkin. As it being really rare drop from a powerful monster it will stay as a status item for a long time. This way it wouldn't really ruin pkin or staking and mages could still have fun while pkin or staking.

The thing is that there are no high level monsters you could solo as they have multiple attacks. These hippies don't have, so they are different to kbd or kq.

hmm...Instead of a worm how about a wyrm, that would make more sence.

In the Tears of Guthix quest it mentions wyrms in the battle of Sara and Zammy.
