May 7, 200521 yr Running windows xp, just the automatic updates part - it told me that I have an update I need to get, specifically: Security Update for Windows XP (KB890859), and so I dl'd and installed it. Two seconds later it pops up again "You have one available update to install", so i resinstall it, and so on, and so on. What's wrong? Has it installed and just not realized it?

May 7, 200521 yr did you restart your computer after the update? If you didn't it still might not reconize it. If you already did restart, then i'm stumped :lol:

Well I'm not a computer genius, but I couldn't find it, seeing as it's an update and not a program, nor a windows component. Maybe a simple system restore and reinstall would do the trick?

Go to add/remove programs It should be called "windows hotfix #####" Just take the very last one (the most current update) and uninstall it :wink: ...

Isn't there a control panel option that allows you to turn off auto updating? check it out Microsoft :lol: so dumb, so dumb. just don't install the update. i've found that it doesn't ask you very often if you just ignore it. :wink:

If you browsed the web with the first version of windows xp that came out with no updates then your pc would be instantly bombarded with attacks and riddled with spyware.
