deep_pain
Sometimes half the posts on a page seem to be locked. If you want to keep them for records purposes or site post count (surely locked posts shouldnt add to peoples post count anyway), then make a trash can to store locked posts. There's a few times when I've seen posts locked, and the reason stated is "highly controversial", well if something is that controversial why are you still allowing it to be read on your forums? InkofDeath
Some people do what to read locked topics, as they may hold information, but that's only some of the topics locked. Other topics that have links to gold selling sites, and other activity, as well as spam topics, I don't know why they aren't removed, I've just figured it's how Tip.It works, even though it's displeasing to see the locked topics. Also, some users want their topic locked, while some users still want to read it. This is another example of why they shouldn't be deleted, but the above about gold selling links, or spam topics, are sometimes removed/deleted, but not always. :ohnoes:
deep_pain
Sorry I realise some guides, announcements and for certain other reasons, posts are locked so pople cant reply. I should have been more specific and said posts that are locked for breaking site rules. Co-Founder of KoA over 18's clan. Founded 2002. tripsis
Sometimes we do prune locked topics if they get excessive on a slow-moving board. All highly inappropriate topics (things like porn, gold selling sites, excessive inappropriate language, etc.) are removed from public view all together and are not left locked in the public forums. Our reason behind not removing locked topics right away is because we want to give the author a chance to see why their post has been locked. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
deep_pain
I understand why they wouldnt be deleted str8 away, although I do wonder about "highly controversial" topics not being deleted str8 off. but just randomly picking page 50 out on the general board, I think June is plenty of time to find out why their post was locked? Well at that point, there isn't really a purpose in deleting it. I'm sure that there are very, very few people (if any) who would casually browse through 50 pages. Could you give me an example of a "highly controversial" topic that was locked? - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
deep_pain
I suppose I could find some, but can't really be bothered lol Sorry just a couple of threads over a period of time I've seen that have been locked for being "highly controversial".. I wouldn't really like to try and find them again. As you say there are very few if any people that would casually browse through 50 pages. I don't want to be one, just to find an example :-P I am certainly not trying to say that I have found anything that I have found offensive on the site, with such a large user base the staff do an amazing job at removing things that need to be removed quickly. But it can sometimes be 2 or 3 days between visits to the site for me, and the only way I can usually find previous posts I have been involved in is by searching my username. easy enough I know, but slightly annoying having to search my name everytime (as pressing back onto search results is a 404). If a post hasnt had a reply for 2 or 3 days it can be on page 3 or 4 or even 5. With so many locked posts on page 1-2-3. if they were moved elsewhere when locked, either completely deleted, or to a public forum called something like trash, were people could still see their thread and the reason it was locked, but free up the average of 15-20 locked topics on each page of the general forum., legitimate posts from 2 days ago would probably still be on page 1 if not page 2. Is there no medium between not deleteing the posts to let people see why they are locked and not deleting them because they are on page 50?.. to make it slightly easier to find recent topics Co-Founder of KoA over 18's clan. Cruiser
Simple solution. Visit more often. If it's that important to you, bookmark the threads, turn on email notifications of replys, or use the egosearch to look for recent threads you replied to. On top of that, removing topics as soon as they are locked does nothing more than confuse people. They'll see their thread disappeared, they won't know why and will automatically start screaming about it. Moving them to a 'trash bin' doesn't do anything to fix that because most people are too lazy to bother looking and would rather scream at the staff instead. The whole thing sounds like a "the current way things works is bad for how I use the forum, fix it" argument. :?
tripsis
Well as I said, we do prune locked topics if there is really a huge amount in one place. But it is a lot of work to go through and remove every single one after a certain point. I will try to remove them a bit more often if that would please you, but don't count on them being removed right away. I'd probably wait 1-2 days before removing a locked thread. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog

Cruiser I'm glad you have the time to visit the forum everyday sadly I don't, thankyou very much for the link I shall definately use it. Sorry, rather stupidly I thought I might make a suggestion in the suggestions forum, for something that I thought might improve the way the forum works. I'm sorry if somehow the suggestion has come across to you like that. I apologise for the way you misunderstood it. Thanks trip for reading my suggestion and listening to my ideas, I do understand how busy the site is and how much time and effort is put into it. thanks for taking the time to read and reply to my suggestions.
