January 11, 200818 yr Double posting, sorry. On an interesting side note, the reason we humans count in base ten is because we have 10 fingers. If people only had 2 fingers on each hand, for example, or number system would go like this. [hide] 0 1 2 3 4 10 11 12 13 14 20 21 22 23 24 30 31 32 33 34 40 41 42 43 44 100 101 102 103 104 110 111 112 113 114 [/hide] Wrap your head around that. This theory is on of my own creation, and I think it's probably pretty true. Almost true. In your example humans would have 2̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâý fingers on each hand, so 5 fingers in total. Here's some examples, the first you will (or not) recognize as binary. [hide]2 fingers in total (not per hand): 0 = 0 1 = 1 10 = 2 11 = 3 100 = 4 101 = 5 110 = 6 111 = 7 1001 = 8 etc 3 fingers in total (not per hand): 0 = 0 1 = 1 2 = 2 10 = 3 11 = 4 12 = 5 20 = 6 21 = 7 22 = 8 etc 4 fingers in total (not per hand): 0 = 0 1 = 1 2 = 2 3 = 3 10 = 4 11 = 5 12 = 6 13 = 7 20 = 8 etc[/hide] Now I hope I didn't make a mistake. :P
January 13, 200818 yr A word doesnt have to be in the dictionary, or even part of a language. It's just a tool of communication. If someone says B to another person, and B means to go to the mall, than B is a "word", a tool of communication.
January 13, 200818 yr Another mind-boggler: How would our own thoughts be organized without our knowledge of the spoken language? There wouldn't really be much of a point to organized thoughts if we didn't have a spoken language. How would we ever communicate them? Visually, of course. Either with written or with sign language. I'd say that we (or at least some major part of the population) already organise thoughts in this way. This signature is intentionally left blank.
