I'm pretty sure you are supposed to get xp for fighting alongside your summon.

The Chaos Tunnels are multicombat areas filled with aggressive monsters, so you will find that it is an excellent location for training your Summoning skill alongside your combat skills.

 

 

 

Eh? I think a glitch is what is making summoning so painful to level up.

You only get points for summouning then. You don't get any points for fighting along side it.

Of course, because you don't really learn anything about combat from letting your familiar do the killing, you will earn no combat experience for any damage your familiars inflict.
