Some weapon-making ideas

Featured Replies

I've had ideas churning in my head as I play Runescape, and I've always liked the ability to make your own weaponry. Perhaps weapon "moulds" could be put into use. There could be moulds for every type of weapon, such as scimitar, longsword, ect. A mold would be used in the same way as a holy mould. They would have to be one metal type higher than the weapon they are made for, as in, an iron sword mould would be needed to make a bronze sword. I think the moulds should be able to be made as soon as a player can smith a metal, like a steel mould can be made at 30, iron at 15, and so on.

Also, I believe custom weapons could be made. There would be several types of add-ons, like barbs for a stab increase, weights for crushing, and blades for slashing. The player would smelt a bar and then hammer it into the desired add-on. The add-on could then be hammered (yes, I know it's unrealistic, but this is Runescape) onto the weapon. The add-ons would have to be the same material. There would be many more possibilities. You could, for example, make a sword and add barbs on, and the stab percentage would nearly double. There would obviously have to be some changes, such as for the scimitar, so that they use all three attack types. But then again, who wants a heavy scimitar?

what would the moulds be for? other then that i wouldnt mind difersifying the weaponry...

Moulds? You can make the weapons already without moulds....

Yeah, smithing as it is is fine, that shouldn't change, but I am interested in the customizations.

Maybe a better suggestion would be some combination of the two ideas; you smith an unaltered weapon like normal, then use the mould to add the customizations on. Using the barbs as an example; you'd hammer the sword like normal, then use a Barbed Sword mould with a furnace and an extra bar to adhere the barbs to the blade. It could be explained that the heat of the furnace would soften the metal enough to "melt" the barbs to the blade.

I think you need to look for the definition of 'rational'.

This doesn't come close, to anything, that could be considered a 'rational' thought.

I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

To the comment on the moulds, they would make traveling all about to make weapons easier, as you wouldn't need an anvil, so you could stay in better mining areas at the expense of smithing exp. Sorry about the confusion, I was trying to hurry too much.

Darg, on the points you mentioned, you hit the nail on the head! That is exactly what I meant. The customizations would be used to make someone who maybe wants the crushing ability of the battleaxe combined with the stabbing on the "barbs" add-on.

Oh, and I've refined my ideas a bit on the moulds. Ftp players could buy the moulds, but only members could make them.
