Laptops :D

Featured Replies

Hey peoples of the T&C.

For my birthday (aswell as a treat for my a-level results) I should be getting a laptop, Now, I've heard rumours and stuff that some specs are complete poo and stuffs.

The main one I've heard is that 3GB of ram is stupid its better to have 2 or 4?

The laptop that im currently looking at is this -

And I was just wondering if its worth the money or if I could find a better deal somewhere else. Please note I don't want to build/buy a PC.

The laptop will be used for Schoolwork, Internet browsing and Gaming (I understand that I will need to get a decent mouse and am currently looking at the Logitech MX518 If anyone has any information on it, it would be appreciated :) )

The games I'm hoping to be able to play are world of warcraft, call of duty, age of conan(possibly), counter strike source, warcraft 3, command and conquer 3, etc.

So If anyone could shed some light it would be appreciated :)

I haven't heard about any problems with 3gb of ram (And my dad's computer has it and works fine) but to get to 4 gigs of ram, you'd have to get a 64-bit OS.

That laptop you have there looks fine though, I use several computers with 2gb of ram and worse specs in other areas on a regular basis and they work fine.

I hate my generation.

Games wise, with 256mb of Dedicated Graphics Memory, it will run all those games with the exception of Age of Conan with absolute ease. Age of Conan will probably run, but it might need to be turned down a little.

When looking at mice, in my opinion, especially playing games, get a full size mouse. The small notebook mice are shocking to game with.

Bumps, can anyone else help me out? :)

Any views on the mouse? I heard its probably the best gaming mouse for its value

To be honest, I like Logitech mice a lot.. I use an LX7, and while it's not a gaming mouse, it's really good for general use.. As long as the mouse you get is full-size (like already said) I think it'd be a good investment.

(And for $50, it looks pretty nice. :))

Well, your PC is decent, , I think it will work well for you

3GB RAM is better than 2GB, and 4GB RAM is better than 3GB, that's what my experience is

It's just a bit weird to have 3GB RAM, since it is usually a multiple of 2

(in general, these people are those who have 1GB RAM in their notebook, but finds it insufficient to run Vista smoothly, so buy another 2GB RAM and upgrade it to 3GB. The addition RAM may also be a gift for purchasing the notebook, and this is exactly for my case)

Currently taking a break from Runescape

I'm not really familiar with the 9300M series but you'd have to run Conan on all lows with 256Mb VRAM.

Looks better, I'm not sure if 8600GT > 9300M or not, however.

However, I would say that a 512Mb 8600GT is definitely better than a 256Mb 9300M. You might be able to squeeze out medium-ish settings in Conan with that laptop.
