June 17, 200818 yr I went out to Pc World and brought one, I couldn't wait any longer, it is VERY nicely speced 3GB Ram, 200GB HDD, 15.4" Screen, 1.83Ghz Processor, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (2GB Cache), Vista Home Premium, Media Center (Idk if thats default for vista) http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1142820101.1213810371@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccfkadeegfgjdehcflgceggdhhmdgmh.0&category_oid=&sku=676404&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null Hey Guys. I made this thread a while back, but because of the rollback lost it and it had some good links in it that I was going to look into all is lost though. My budget I can't go over £500 unfortunately as I am paying for this laptop out of my own money. I need a laptop purely for the portability, I need to be able to work on projects almost anywhere and I can't do that with a desktop  I'm looking for something with around 2Ghz CPU and 2GB RAM, Hard drive space...160GB will do me fine, I normally have all my videos on DVD discs so that saves quite a lot of space. This PC I am on currently is at 120GB/149GB, though I do not use all that space I do not want a laptop with under 100GB or hard drive space I like to have the freedom of having a lot of space and this laptop will need to see me through a few years and I don't want to install a new hard drive a few years down the line. I have looked at a few laptops on line and haven't found nothing that took my fancy except these two, they are both Acer. 1 2 So give me feedback on those aswell if you like. Thank you in advance, Perry :) - If you need any more information etc please do not hesitate to ask.
June 18, 200818 yr What is it you are going to be using this specifically for? Work? Light gaming? Also, do you have any preference on screen size? In any case, have a look at some Dell laptops, since you can customize them on the website for your needs.

Mainly work, RS when I feel like it so it has to be more than capable running the new detail, I don't really want to remove any of the detail and it need to be pretty smooth running. Dell are pretty expensive and you don't really get that good of a machine :?
June 18, 200818 yr Sony and HP are both pretty good in my opinion. I'd recommend /WF25a/21675-38187-38191-38191-38191-81683601.html]this HP, personally. I once shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.Pics or it didn't happen. I hate my generation.
June 18, 200818 yr If you have a 500 pound budget, I suggest you split it into 2 parts. Don't buy Acer, their service stinks after they get the money. One is for an ordinary desktop which can satisfy your 2GB RAM, and a 160GB harddrive need. You will be using it at home to prepare for your project and powerpoints, as well as some gaming and entertainment. You can meet your specification easily by spending less than 200 pounds, assuming that you keep your monitor One is for an subnotebook, like EEE PC, which can be bought with about 200 pound for mobility. For this notebook, as you bring it everywhere for powerpoint presentation or preparations ONLY, the requirment will not be that high, so it can be fulfilled by the relatively inferior hardware of EEEPC. Most importantly, EEEPC is LIGHT, it only weighs about 1kg, which is half of an ordinary notebook and about 40% of your chosen Acer notebooks (note that you will be bringing it everywhere! Don't just focus on its specification - well, it may look nice, but you won't be happy when you have to bring a notebook weighting nearly 3kg everyday!) You can check out more about EEEPC at their official site http://eeepc.asus.com/global/ Hope my suggestion works! Currently taking a break from Runescape

I already have a desktop which I am posting on, I think i am going to keep this PC for a bit longer. I need a fully working laptop, I've saw a review of the EEEPC at http://stuff.tv a while - 2GB HDD on the £200 version and £4GB on the £220, No thanks - I need all my music, Pictures, some short movies like podcasts for my iPod wherever I am as I want to move away from the Desktop "scene" lol. The UI seems a bit childish also, they have a picture of a child using it at the top, I want something more grown up. I also do not like Linux, I tried Ubuntu for about 1 week a few weeks back, did not like it I will never leave windows, ever. Thank you for your suggestion anyway
June 18, 200818 yr i wouldn't get a dell alot of people i know that have bought dells with in the last 6 months they have all BSOD within weeks of getting them.
June 18, 200818 yr ASUS laptops are exceptional, but one with mid-range specs would be about £100-£150 out of your budget. (I have no idea of the support, they don't seem to go wrong often) The HP that Bac_Talan recommended is pretty good for what you want it for. I'll see if I can dig up some more in the way of laptops later on. Toshibas seem to be good reliability-wise, not too sure on prices though. Steam | Soup | Last.fm
