Acero Frio
Hi, all. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, SP2 on an approximately 3 year old machine, however, the DVD drive has started to open randomly, and today it did it before the OS had loaded. I was wondering whether any of you could shed any light on this matter. Thanks, Syrup.
eyehawk78
If its happened before the OS have even loaded it probably just a mechanical fault with the drive itself. Probably a busted catch or something. Website Updates & Corrections | Website Discussion
ClareJonsson
This could also be a virus, run a full virus and spyware scan on your system. One way to find out if it's hardware or not is do the following: Turn your PC on, and enter the BIOS setup. Leave it there and if the CD Drawer opens on it's own, then it's hardware. If it only opens on it's own whilst in Windows, then it's software causing it. [Assist-X]
sloter
It could also be corrupt firmware.
D. V. Devnull
MmmSyrup, if you do find it is a Mechanical Failure with your DVD drive, then here is an option for what to buy to replace it... From Newegg.com  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106228 (LiteOn FTW!!!) I think you will be very satisfied with the quality and ability of that DVD drive that I've provided a link to. ~D. V. Devnull and normally with a cool mind.(Warning: This user can be VERY confusing to some people... And talks in 3rd person for the timebeing due to how insane they are... Sometimes even to themself.)
