DVD drive opening before OS has loaded?

Featured Replies

Hi, all.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, SP2 on an approximately 3 year old machine, however, the DVD drive has started to open randomly, and today it did it before the OS had loaded. I was wondering whether any of you could shed any light on this matter.

Thanks,

Syrup.

This could also be a virus, run a full virus and spyware scan on your system.

One way to find out if it's hardware or not is do the following:

Turn your PC on, and enter the BIOS setup. Leave it there and if the CD Drawer opens on it's own, then it's hardware. If it only opens on it's own whilst in Windows, then it's software causing it.

It could also be corrupt firmware.

MmmSyrup, if you do find it is a Mechanical Failure with your DVD drive, then here is an option for what to buy to replace it...

I think you will be very satisfied with the quality and ability of that DVD drive that I've provided a link to.
