Vista - File Transfer Speed

Featured Replies

I've not heard anything about Microsoft fixing this yet, does anyone else know more than me? (basically nothing)

I wouldn't mind, but I'm only copying them locally (C:\ to D:\) as I have two separate HD's on my Laptop

I'm only doing the good ol' copy and paste but I'm only getting 13Mb/sec which takes ages :shame:

It's been fixed for a while now. It was fixed before SP1, it's also included with the service pack.

I still transfer really slowly and I have SP1 #-o

How slow are you talking about? You can click "more information" on the file copy window to see. Vista copies files differently than XP if that's what your comparing it to (Vista is actually more efficient).

hm...that's really weird cuz clearly i never had that kind of problem. I have 2 HD installed on mine too (360Gbx2). When i download something it automatically goes to C, then when i move it to E,( D is Hp system recovery) it moves at 85mb/s and its real fast. That 13mb/s thing only happens when i'm trying to copy something off a disc.

and uhh..is this the first time or is it always like that..?

Quit runescape on Jan 6th of 2008, at level of 115 with around 150M worth of item in bank...however stats still remains

The actual problem did not effect copying files between internal hard drives. It effected copying files from the PC to different media, such as CD/DVD, Network shares and devices like memory sticks. The actual problem was slow file transfers and incorrect calculations on how long it would take to actually copy the files. I remember one person who was copying some files to a CD and Vista estimated that it would take 30 years :D.

SP1 should have fixed this but I have heard one or two people saying it didn't fix their problem. I can't confirm this as every Vista SP1 system I have seen appears to be fine. So I would think the people still with problems are talking out of their posterior.
