Well, back in September I bought a 3rd generation iPod Nano. About a month and a half ago, I went to Six Flags, and the screen got cracked.

I can still play music by pushing the buttons, but I can't use the screen. I'm not sure if Apple will cover it or not (will somebody clarify it for me? I see so many different "I shipped my iPod in and they sent me a new one" and "Apple won't cover it". So could somebody clarify it for me, and if they don't, what would be the best way to fix it? (without buying a new iPod)

If it's still under warenty I think you can get it fixed. Honestly though, how did it get cracked? iPods usually are fairly durable.

 

 

 

Aside from getting a new one / shipping this old one in there is nothing you can do to fix that screen.

I seriously doubt Apple will cover damage under warranty. Warranties cover component failure, not damage.

As far as cost goes I know I would have had to pay full price just to get a damn new battery for my old iPod. Yeah, definitely just said [bleep] it there. :P

 

 

 

For a broken screen its hard to tell.

If it's still under warranty, it will probably be covered. Apple is legendary for their no-hassle warranties. If it is not under warranty, it will not be covered.

I broke a digital camera that was still under warranty. It was entirely my fault, but they replaced it for $20. Wasn't free, but it's still a hellava lot cheaper than buying a new one. I'd say try and send it in.

Well, I don't really see an option on the Apple Mail-In service list that explains "broken screen". Should I just send it in and see what they say? Or is there a way to contact them about it?

Can't really do that... 75-80% of my songs were purchased on iTunes.

We maintain all sorts of products and no way would we honor a warranty on a smashed screen, that's user damage, not a failed component.

My ipod is about the same (although it only has one major crack, it's unreadable). They wouldn't replace it for free, but they offered to repair it, for some $200+...Although I'm not sure it was covered under warranty when it broke, my friend had the same problem and just ended up buying a new nano after being rejected for a free replacement.

 

 

 

I'd say if you can deal with it, just use it with the cracked screen, or use it as a portable hd..If you are rejected, you can search for screen replacement kits, which can run $25-100, depending on the model. It's not that hard to do, but it's more for an "ah what the hell, at least I can say I took one apart if it fails" attitude. There are many guides on doing this too, just look around google.
