Agunimon979
Read this before you reply. Yes yes yes, I'm sure some of you think "agunimon979 is such a dum noob lol the censor is 2 protect noobs from swearing". Well that's not the argument. yes, the censor is useful for immature tards who swear all over the place to impress people they'll probably never meet. Those are the people jagex are trying to protect us from. But the censor is not just blocking only swears. Innocent words get blocked because of the censor. Even random gibberish gets blocked out. Here we go. Jagex, raking in over 5 million USD a month and the money from ads can't even fix their own censors? Oh yeah, they spend all this time dumbing down the game and attempting to make it a virtual forum (see "Who saw Runescape at E3?" thread in general discussion) but they can't even spend the LITTLE time to fix their own censor? I get reported for swears I never said, because random innocent words or parts of words get blocked out. TL;DR: censor blocks out innocent words
compfreak847
"fixing" the censor, as you put it, requires far more time and effort that you apparently realize. Making a censor that can take out almost every way that offensive words can be spelled is a huge task. Making it so that that censor never censors anything its not supposed to is an almost insurmountable task. Jagex has done a very good job on both accounts. Sure, a few things slip around, but most are fine. I rarely find myself inconvenienced by the censor; almost every time the problem is inadvertent starring of players names. Besides that, they are constantly refining it. I would commend, not insult, them. (And really, what's the big deal about "random gibberish" being censored?) sephiroth_king
I somewhat agree that the censor should be fixed so some words may be used. No, I DO agree. I wish they would fix the censor so that some words aren't blocked. However, random gibberish should be censored; there is no need for it. And rarely will the censor stab me in the back, and when it does, I generally get angered. fixing" the censor, as you put it, requires far more time and effort that you apparently realize. If they have enough time to make RS a "Forum" as Andrew suggests, then they better "Fix" the censor from arousing problems, even if they are small. Damn wanna be mods are everywhere, and will report a bleep even if it's innocent... Agunimon979
Well, I'm sure jagex has a virtual coding list of every word that doesn't pass the censors, and even if they don't, they could spend some time fixing it. It's not a minor problem. Ffs i'm tired of getting reported for not swearing and having innocent words censored.

Reporting for censored words would technically be abusing Customer Support, and is against the rules. Sig credit goes to ThruItAll. :D

Makoto_the_Phoenix
No censor is ever going to be perfect. Also, to be honest, the only real times I've seen it mis-fire in the last six months where when I was using shortened/leet-speak words, or when I misspelled them. By the by, the amount of logic and cunning required to filter every single bad word and leave intact regular conversion is nigh impossible. Some examples of legitimate words that could get filtered are quincunx, [kitty]cat, or even the number "717". It's inevitable though; words that aren't profane but sound similar enough to profane words will get caught. EDIT: Well, I'm sure jagex has a virtual coding list of every word that doesn't pass the censors, and even if they don't, they could spend some time fixing it. It's not a minor problem. RSBDavid
The censor isn't really that bad. It's like being a high level in a free world. You should get use to it. If you were in CS you would change your opinion right away. They probably handle hundreds of thousands of reports a day. I am guessing about 30% of those are useless WBM reports that waste time making the process of getting to you much slower. That's why they also have the reporting academy. It helps us by telling the players how to report in a better quality way. This way , CS gets to the actual important issues much faster. WBM are more of hindrance, then helpful. so complain to the wanna be Mods if you complain about anything. Agunimon979
Well, I don't think its fair at all when I'm talking at the fishing spots and one INNOCENT word gets censored. Of course, everyone gets quiet so its a little suspicious. Then I go to Abuses & Ban Appeals and find out I got reported for it. I appeal it saying I never actually swore. Of course, their beautiful RANDOMLY GENERATED REPLIES turn it down, with the same message I get everytime I appeal. This has happened.

That one little word could have been a racial slur or something offensive. I got .3 black marks for saying "c cracker" I was referring to the x-mas cracker but a WBM got happy and reported me. But I appealed it successfully. [software Engineer] - [Ability Bar Suggestion] - [Gaming Enthusiast]
LiChef
I've only really had one problem with the censor and tehcnically it wasn't on RuneScape itself. It was on the RuneScape Forums. The Li in Li Chef would be starred out. Don't know why and i don't know if it has been fixed. Other than that whats wrong with a few innocent words being covered up? I'm sure you can think of many other ways of making your point.
