a few FoG questions

Featured Replies

Just a few things I wanted to know about FoG. I'm p2p, but f2p insights are also valuable. Stats are in my sig.

1.How long does snare last in FoG?

2.As hunted, what weapon spec should I use (aside from excalibur and seercull bow)?

3.Is it worth it to cast a -10% def spell on people I'm hunting?

4.Is it worth the time to switch void helms when changing my attack (combat triangle) style? I go in with void melee but wear it with range and mage attacks.

5.If I'm wear black dhide and my hunter is wielding a melee weapon but blasting spells on me (he's right next to me) should I just prot from melee while trusting my armor to hold back the worst of the magic attacks?

6.Does the +10%/15% mage bonus prayer help while defending against a mage? If so, is it more cost-efficient (in terms of prayer points) than the def bonus prayers?

7.Is it worth it to bring heavy armor (e.g. veracs) to FoG? I'm considering full veracs - helm with mage protect prayer.

8.Any suggestions on range weapons? I'm currently using knives. (funny thing is, I use it while standing right next to my prey. They keep their melee protection on. ) I've tried crossbows, but I don't like how slow it is.

9.Should I set my dds to "spec" when I first start hunting? I find that when my prey tellies just as I spec, I don't hit them and lose part of my spec bar.

10. What's the average lvl for f2p FoG players? If there aren't a lot of med/high lvl people there, I might wanna go in there.

11. Is it worth the bother to "prayer switch"? (It's turning your prayer off after your opponent makes his attack and turning prayer back on before his next attack) Is it worth it to learn how to "prayer switch"?

Bad luck happens. Learn and get over it.

As an F2Per, I would suggest you know when to switch prayer, but not on and off prayer. If you are going for mage exp, just go for damaging spells, occasionally snare/bind. You have to judge for yourself whether you want to use 15% or 10% defence prayer when you are hunted. In game Experience will allow you to decide how you would play for your game. I have not been playing recently, but as a 98 in F2P with strategies, I can beat slightly higher levels (99-102 are my records). Lower levels beaten easily. You need to remember how to cope after playing a few times. Good luck.

Edit: Dhide armour advised with rune full helm in f2p when being hunted, but bring it mage robes if you want to cast spells when hunting. While attacking, I go for mage and range attacks, but rune scimitar brought along in case opponent is in dhide. (Range and occasionally maging works if your opponent wear dhides)

Yeah, like that zaryte bow

wait

recharge costs = ammo.

So, all melee weapons are overpowered, at least.

this combat triangle finally makes sense...

a few wtf

1.snare lasts 10 seconds

2.d long gives some def bonuses

3.worth a try

4.dont use void period

5.try to get karils and use promelee

6.idk

7.cant you bring in a familar to help?

8.use rune knives/they are cheap compared to a year ago 1/10 the price

9.use spec k0 as fast as you can

foukouei.png

1. Snare and bind last as long as they usually do. (I use them quite a lot so im pretty certain)

2. Dunno. Not mem.

3. Dont bother dropping stats cuz the hunted's stats are already dropped.

4. For the same reason dont bother switching armour unless you snare them first. (It might help but not much so rather have them snared)

5. Dont trust the armour as hunted, because of the lower stats. I had full rune and a lvl 10 hit me with melee 3 times in a row.

6. I've been testing it and the magic boosting prayers dont actually help magic defense. Unless you can make a game last the whole 10 minutes go with protection prayers.

7. Maybe. After the level 10 hit me I never bothered with armour.

8. Use the fastest weapon possible.

9. Not mem.

10. Around level 3-29 that are training and will most likely forfeit on their turn is fairly common.

Level 30-79 are playing for fun, most common.

Level 80+ are in it for the tokens, very common. Just look at the centre and all you see are 80+ with 20k plus charges.

11. You cant really see the attack coming. Just leave prayer on.

I cant use a chair, evidence that Lucien's men are sitting on them.

I go for worlds with lesser people but still fog worlds, so that I can see opponents' attacks. Why not check out some of the tip.it guides?

At least get dhide chaps and vambraces in F2P for defence. You would know when you have to take away accuracy reducing/defence armor at times.

Ty for the quick feedback. I'm looking for more fleshed-out, constructive criticism.

1.Snare doesn't last 10 seconds in FoG. I don't know how big the nerf is, but bind spells are nerfed.

2.As for d-long, the spec doesn't do anything for prey. Remember, I'm holding on to a 2-h rock.

3.ty, I may as well use it. Especially in longer games.

4.Okay, so I shouldn't use void. Can you suggest other offense-based armor with the ranging and maging flexibility of void?

5.Does karils give a decent range defense bonus?

6.ty anyway

7.I'm at 29 summoning, almost all of it from ToG. I'm not actively training summoning (though I know I should)

8.I'll have to see whether i'm willing to spend that kind of money. Ty for the tip.

9.As hunter, I don't use up my whole spec bar in the first few seconds. KO as fast as possible with 4 dds specs (3 if one gets wasted) is a nice thought, but my levels aren't exactly up to that task. I'll take that as a yes.

In p2p, we have powerful weapons and spells, as well as poison. Deaths come a lot quicker  so I may as well pray. I always end a game with less than 5 prayer left (unless the opponent manages to kill me in 20 seconds), and almost always end with 0 prayer left. I just wonder if it's worth it to conserve prayer this way.

Really? my snares don't feel like 10 secs.

2. Dunno. Not mem.

3. Dont bother dropping stats cuz the hunted's stats are already dropped.

I never thought about it this way.

4. For the same reason dont bother switching armour unless you snare them first. (It might help but not much so rather have them snared)

It's just one piece of armor, and it makes a 10/15% difference. But I can't be bothered

5. Dont trust the armour as hunted, because of the lower stats. I had full rune and a lvl 10 hit me with melee 3 times in a row.

I guess I'd better trust my prayers, then. Thanks for the tip.

6. I've been testing it and the magic boosting prayers dont actually help magic defense. Unless you can make a game last the whole 10 minutes go with protection prayers.

That's a big oops on my part, then. Tyvm for the info.

7. Maybe. After the level 10 hit me I never bothered with armour.

lol, no wonder my ranged attacks still worked on metalclad warriors.

8. Use the fastest weapon possible.

8-)

9. Not mem.

10. Around level 3-29 that are training and will most likely forfeit on their turn is fairly common.

Ok, tyvm for the info. As soon as I can be bothered to clear my bank for f2p stuff, i'll go FoG on f2p.

11. You cant really see the attack coming. Just leave prayer on.

I thought about it this way: this tactic is really useful for a really good player. If you screw up with it, you just lost a big chunk of health. I guess I'll experiment with it.

Tyvm for the info.

I go for FoG worlds with a lot of people, so the opponent can't see my attacks  Is mage robes + r scim a good hunter combo in f2p?

pretty sure a bind lasts long enough just for me to shoot off one 1 fire blast (f2p) and then there able to run away some more and are "immune"

to binds for about 5seconds after the bind finished

1100 total achieved 03/02/09 880thousandth to reach it :P

1200 total achieved 29/09/11 1.23millionth to reach it :P

I can reasonably assume that snares would last twice as long as binds, so I'd have time for 2 attacks. Of course, snares in p2p aren't really worth it when the guy I'm hunting just tanks...

When you say "bind finished" do you mean after the bind spell hits or after the bind effect wears off? Because I find (in f2p) that you could bind someone the minute he starts running away again. (It's fun to use when your prey is at the edge and has used tele-orb)

All im going to tell you is what I do and i think it can help you.

I dont think mele is worth it in the field. But if you do alwayas use mele and magic while using a mele wepon but while having magic clothes on.

What i do is i wear ghostly and a magic short and rune arrows I get them to put range protect on and i mage untill they put mage pray on and so forth. Also i use ancients to freese them.

Veracs is an ok idea

Try using the dds spec. The dagger (for specs and poison only) is almost overpowered. Then come back and tell me melee isn't worth it ;)

Ooh, a range/mage hybrid. I'm a range/mage/melee hybrid  Void melee set doesn't decrease mage attack, so I think I'll stick with that.

This is great for me defensively... I don't have ancients  Yes, I know I should get it.

Does the 5 seconds also apply to bind and snare and entangle?
