Simple solution to the increasing scammer problem.

I myself am only annoyed by them.

But daily, new players and those with less experience get scammed, sometimes they loose alot, sometimes to the point that they quit after they loose evrything to a scammer.

Who would want to start a new game, play it for a month, and then loose evrything you have. And then Jagex does nothing about it.

If you only ban the scammer account, its easy to make a new one, but if you add a banishment to their main accounts, they would think twice before doing it again.

So when they(Jagex) gets a report about a scammer they should chack evry account that played from that IP that day, and bann them all for 30 days.

After a 30 day ban on their main account, you can be sure they wouldnt do it again.

...or you can just glance at the second trade screen before hitting accept

There are other kind of scams then item scams.

only greedy people or dumb people get scammed, if they actually read the jagex rules then it wont happen

No, i dont think it is like that. New players and people who dont know that much about the game, and RS community get scammed aswell.

Also, evryone is greedy, its in human nature to be greedy.

I wonder why you are against it, both of you?

Clean people got nothing to worry about, only the rulebreakers who try to scamm other people.

of course we all hate scammers, but its partly the person who got scamed's fault, if they actually read the rules, which they should have before signing up (i think they make you click "agree to the terms" or something) then it will not happen, the rules tells you what to do (look carefully before accepting trades) and what not to do (giving away pass...)

there will always be scammers, you cant ban them all, even if you do make a new account and level it is easy, best thing you can do is to tell the people how not to get scammed

Ofcourse its boths fault, but still, you cannot blame someone for getting robbed..

Even stupid people deserve to play.

You cannot ban them all, but since rs2 came out, you see them at evry corner of the game, sometimes even 3-4 in the same screen.

To tell you the truth, i didnt read through the rules myself, but i use common sence and it works just fine for me.

As for telling people how not to get scammed, i do so, but i cannot follow scammers around all day long telling people that they are trying to scam.

The solution is simple and already done: The new guys in lumbridge who give advice.

One of them did give advice about scamming to me(Checking if its actualy helpful for new players), so this post is basicly meaningless.

The only way to stop scammers is to make people aware of their tricks.

here are some of the tricks that scammers use:

most common: switching ironn and rune, then quickly clicking accept, which is the lamest of all.

the "oops, wrong button" trick: this is as well a very dumb trick, yet sadly, people fall for it. they fail to accept three-four times, and in the end, they give you 4k instead of 40k.

the "hurry, i got to go soon!" trick: this is again a pretty lame trick, yet sadly, it still works. they combine the "oops, wrong button" trick, and then they switch to a different grade weapon, or money, that looks the same, and tells you to accept fast.

the "ill pay 100 MIL more for that!" trick.: this is by far the stupidest trick ever. i ignore these people, as it is a waste of time. THEY are a waste of my time. some things are too good to be true, and they probably are.

i havent played runescape for 4 months, so that's all the tricks i thought of. but just a trick to keep you all safe from being scammed. what ever you do, ALWAYS click the accept button ONCE!!! do not frantically click it a hundred million times because you cannot wait. learn to control the adrenaline. ALWAYS, and this is wha t most people fail to do, is to check the god dam second screen. you are NOT in a hurry, so take your time, and check that the items are right. and lastly, ALWAYS let the person accept first, unless you think they won't scam you. but anyways, you cant trust anyone else but yourself. so you noobies or pro's keep that in mind, and you won't get scammed.

Sup noobs.

one of the common scams i've seen is scammers offering 40k for items, then they change it to 4k.

As the other posters have said, check the second trade screen carefully and dont be in too much of a hurry to accept.

If any deal seems too good to be true, it's probably a scam

Very bad idea. Since high schools, universities, and companies use 1 IP address for everyone in the location, this could end up banning thousands of people who have done nothing. Also, here in Canada most people are on dynamic IP addresses at home, so all that would happen is they would be banned until their IP address changes (anywher from 2 hours to 2 days with most ISP's), or they could manually request an IP change.

I got scammed by the "I'm a staff member at Jagex, I'll get you free stuff" I just started playing, and had no idea, so I got my combat 73 member's account stollen (1 year membership), with full rune, d long sword, and much more, but the guy that did it, even after taking everything isn't giving the account back. Any suggestins? I had my recovery details filled out, but they wern't activated yet. I still have the reciept of the money order I sent out, and the order forum for the membership, I wonder if I can do anything with that. The person that scammed me was . He first laurs you in with another account, then goes in for the kill with the aduknight one. I don't care if I lost everything, I just want my account back. I hope I can take care of this. My account is Itsme7. There should be a wall of shame for all the scammers. Thanks for any suggestions, to the noob, lol.

[mod edit: Sorry but we don't allow namings if accusing. Read the rules and try the Customer Support, it's the best shot (if only) at the moment]

Ha, forget I said anything, turns out Jagex won't allow more than 1 login per ip address. I just tried to get a bunch of people playing at my university and everyone after the first person who logged in was givene the message that there were "too many logins from this IP". It's also impossible to play against your family and friends on a home network, at least on mine, since we are all connected through 1 router and we all have the same IP address. I guess Jagex doesn't think of these things when designing their game

we're trying to get rid of the annoying little [puncture]s. We do not want them in runescape at all. i am absolutely sick of people saying that exact same thing! just shut up! we all know to check the second screen! WE ARE TRYING TO GET RID OF THEM!

i am behind you 100%. ive made a couple scammer prevention topics too, but they all got ruined because of idiots like troll.
