You can smith about 1k bars/hour. I got 52k xp/hour making mith bolts, and those give 50 xp each.

I did calculations, and steel bolts are cheaper by close to 1m (going for 69), and since I'm not rich, I like to go the cheaper way. Anyways, thanks for answering my question, it looks like I have a little over 5 and a half hours of smithing.
