battletrax
Assuming you use windows, I'm gonna assume that that sort of software doesn't exist. You might find free converters for one format to another but you'd never find a free converter from everything to everything...

Eric2203
MP3 conversion is easy. There's tons of software out there that does it. You probably already have one without knowing it. Such as a CD-recording program (though I never looked into getting the MP3s before it burns them). MPG to MP4. First of all, MPEG doesn't say what kind of MPEG standard it's encoded with, it may be 4 already. Second, look on http://www.doom9.org ; it's the movie-making bible. Look into Virtual Dub although I can't remember if it does MP4 without tweaking.
Mercifull
I always thought that mpegs were already MPEG-4 encoded. Try just renaming the extension and see if that works. Eric2203
In this day and age, all you can find is probably already MPEG4. But there are still older files around which may use MPEG1. Or 2, but I doubt that. Changing the extension doesn't do anything. Media Player looks within the file to find out what codec it needs, regardless of its extension. Best way is to check out the properties of the file when it's playing. It should tell you what codec it's using. Or use a software called GSpot, it tells you what your video file is made of. Sorry, don't have the link handy, but if you look on the website I gave in my previous post above, you should find it.
