Need mp3 player

So my ipod nano died, and now I'm looking for another mp3 player. I don't want an ipod this time around (the one I had was actually a gift), the news ones are meh-meh. I'm looking for a mp3 player with about 8gb & good sound, I dont want to watch videos on it, just something simple to put mp3s on and go. FM radio would be nice too. So I've been looking around and it looks like some good brands would be iriver, creative, microsoft, sony.. Well there's so many of them I don't know which ones are good?

First thought was a Creative Zen Stone, but then I recall reading about quite a few charging problems - the charging sysyem seems prone to problems.

 

 

 

My own player is a 2GB Tevion with video (AMR) - there are many players based on the Action chipset, the chinese "S1 MP3 Player" - the video ones are misnamed as MP4 players, as they are not capable of MP4.

 

 

 

A common capability among these cheap players, is the undocumented abilty to play OGG (Vorbis) format as well as MP3 - the one I have is also capable of WMA with DRM10, and can be switched between player mode (synchronize using WMP or other software, audio only), or flash drive mode.

 

 

 

Another name to look out for is Archos, better known for their hard disk based players, but they do have smaller flash players as well.

They seem to lack an intermediate model, the next one is the 405, 30GB disk or 2GB + SD card.

I myself have an iriver e10 and I swear it was made for me, once dropped it and someone accidentally kicked it, and it was still playing music. It also has a remote built into it for just about every tv known to man, and a few known to monkey. Which is awesome if you, like me, carry your mp3 everywhere (pranks are an added bonus :lol: )

My brother has an Irivier, an older version but it's 5Gbs, and he had to send it for repairs............... twice. That's what's getting me off this brand.

 

 

 

Good brands I saw arround are pretty much Sandisk (cheap but reliable), they make the Sansa MP3 players, and Creative make good ones too. Of course there's known brands too, like Sony, but I never bought anything from them, so I don't know their quality.

I've got a Creative Zen 60GB and it has battery life much longer than an ipod, better image/video quality i reckon and it also has a FM radio. It is rather chunky but I think that you can get thinner models out now.
