I am very new to hunting them, its my 2nd trip and my last one I left at around 100 bars. I choose not to stay for hours on end because I also farm and do other things. I do them becuase so far its enjoyable, I get range exp, money, smithing exp, and fletching exp.

*edit* By the way I Tank them, so thats why I don't have prayer gear. I also try to have a high range def to avoid taking hits.

Just recently I had a person question my setup and then say I "Hit too low". My question is am I doing something wrong? Is there anything MAJORLY wrong with my gear ect.

Head, Helm of Neitzot( range def with little or no range penalty)

Chest, Bandos

Legs, Bandos

Ammy, Armadyl ammy(spelling?)

Gloves, Zammy vamp

Boots, Dragon (yes I know they dont provide any range def but I haven't yet gotten around to getting any other ones)

Weap, Rune CBow

Ammo, Broad Bolts

Shield slot, Dragon sq(not as good as obby or granite but I don't think the small def upgrade will matter too much)

Strategy: I kill mainly 73s and 79s, and sometimes food allowing, I'll take on the 83s(right level i belive). I don't try to kill as fast as possible because its more for fun than for crazy money and exp. I super def pot up. My actual kill speed I dont know, but I would say 100 bars takes around 1 hour to and hour and a half.

My max hit that I have seen is 21, just hit 74 range so "maybe" it went up but so far nothing new. I feel that i am doing well enough, I can easily survive on B2P alone, and they drop swordfish that also helps me last longer. I bring plenty of runes to B2P ect. The only thing I have not used is range pots, because I normally never have a use for them until now. Still experimenting with the Aviansie.

I also do not hit that many 0s in my opinion, maybe 20-25% miss rate at the worst. And mostly i think it's because of my lower lvl of range. I have 85 def.

Thanks in advance

I tank them, and it provides almost the same range def as Barrows without the repair cost. It has the same reduction to range attack. I dont miss often enough for me to worry about my range attack.

That amount of range defence is WAY more than necessary. At 85 defence, you should try killing them with full range gear (coif, body, chaps) plus a granite shield or DFS if you can afford it. That gives you about 160 range attack and defence. That's a +70 advantage over what you have right now, and that makes a huge difference.

Ah, this reminds me about the noob on the Runescape forums who was upset with the quest "Cold War" because apparently his grandparents died in the war. :wall:

Thanks llamster. I guess my question now is does adding alot more range attack help my killing speed enough to where that much def isn't neccesary? I've read some guides that had people swap out def peices for actual range gear like dragonhide. Simply put, if i lower my def but raise my attack at the same time, will I still do just as well? I don't wanna take 2x more hits for a marginal increase to damage basicly =)

you would kill the aviansies much faster with higher range attack, because you would be hitting higher more often.

normally when people tank they only wear legs for melee armor, and use d hide in the plate position. and with your defence level you could probably go their with full d hide and a shield and barely get hurt.

Thanks everyone :D

I shall trade out my body for guthix dragonhide since I do already own that.

I shall go make the snakeskin boots since I know my dragon boots dont really help at all.

Forgot to add my cape, I wear my quest cape. I don't have a fire cape or any 99s, so is there any cape better right now? I think its the best I have.

If i still can maintain a good food supply I shall maybe even try with full range. \:D/

Is the armadyl set a very big upgrade? If i remember correctly the range attack bonus isn't that much higher than black dragonhide, Although i know that even 1 peice would be nice because I could use glory or fury for my ammy instead. I recently bought my bandos and am trying to save up for a fury again. After that I might look into a peice of armadyl.

use an accumulator.

gives a range attack bonus, and picks up your arrows/bolts for you.

Accumlator picks up broad bolts? Or would i have to switch to iron or steel? I thought it only did those 2 metals

picks up ANY bolts or ANY arrows.

*edit* as the person below me just said, it also picks up knives darts etc. anything you throw basically. putting it in simpler terms.
