As A First Resort...

Recommended Posts

Under Suggested Items, Lit Torch should be put there, so you can smoke the traps and it'll be easier to trap the "pests".

===================================================================

Under Tips, Tricks & Notes, Hunter is NOT raised by 8; I have 48 Hunter and my level is temporarily increased to 55, so I suspect that the Mud Pool increases your Hunter by 15%. Also, my HP is increased from 75 to 90, so I suspect that the Thermal Pool increases max HP by 20%. And the Salt-water Pool gives me about 20 minutes of infinite energy at 70 Agility, give or take 2 minutes.

The Ogress monsters can be trapped behind the plants used to smoke the bugs away from the pool, so this way you can gather the plants without being attacked.

There's a charter to Oo'glog east of the resort, so you can take a charter from places like Catherby, Brimhaven and Port Sarim, for quick access to the pools.

You can continue on with the quest using a Hunter Potion (+3 Hunter) if you don't meet the Hunter requirements, but the Baby Platypi require 48 Hunter to trap, so you'll have to constantly keep drinking pots to stay at 48 while you try and trap em (I spent like 20 mins trying to trap em using potions and no lit Torch). Check out my first screenie, and look at the Hunter XP. If you subtract the Hunter XP reward from my current XP, you'll know that I finished the quest with 46 Hunter.

EDIT: If there's anyone who wants to post screenshots of these corrections, go ahead. I've finished the quest so I'm unable to do so.

Sorry about triple posting, I just want to bump my thread up.

Apparently, the length of time you keep infinite energy doesn't seem to be attributed to actual time, but how many running steps you take (or something like that). The first time I timed it, it lasted for about 20 mins. But on some days I noticed that it actually lasted for less time, and today during a quest, it lasted for over 30 minutes. The only differences I could see was the amount of running I did while I possessed infinite energy.

SO, as a correction, it appears that the Salt-water Pool at Oo'glog gives infinite energy that lasts for a certain number of steps (although I have no idea how many, and I certainly have no intention of counting them).

1. Lit torch - I think it won't let you, I believe it was attempted when the quest came out.

2. Hunter boost - you probably hit the "clock tick" and lost 1 level right away. The boosts were determined by looking through the posted results from dozens of players when the quest came out.

3. The HP boost was determined by many players to be 20%, but some players reported otherwise. Rather than continuing to hold disputes, the guide says that it boosts it. Players can find out how much it boosts them by trying it for themselves.

4. Elementary monster blocking isn't something we address in guides.

5. The charter ship info is already listed in the Tips and Tricks section of the quest guide.

6. From your xp - 15,000, it looks like you were at 47 hunter during the quest, because in the pic you are about to roll to 49. You are the first person to report that a hunter potion works with this quest. Given the juggling that you had to do in order to trap the platypus, it's not something I'd necessarily recommend.

7. Running - the boost is not based on the number of steps, or weight, or any of the other things people have guessed. The length of time is related to your agility level. Again, this information is from tests done by dozens of players when the quest was released. We can't adjust a website guide based on one person's experience.

it's a lot easier to get over yourself when you look at intelligence the same way you look at beauty, or height, or eye color: being smart is easy, but being good is hard ... being smart is handed to you, being good is handed to *nobody*.

SOMETHING must affect run energy, because I've taken a stop-watch out and timed it and sometimes I got 15 minutes at level 58 and sometimes I got less than 12.

In fact, at level 60, I was able to navigate most of the Haunted Mine quest and had time left over in the boss room, but then a second trip in (which should take less time once I knew what I was doing and had set up the cart tracks) it ran out before getting the fungi from the cart!

Perhaps the first "dose" of the day is more potent than successive doses? Anyone else have a stop-watch and can test?

It's not really something a screen shot will help with.

One thing I'm pretty sure of...length of time spent in the pool doesn't seem to affect the length of run.

Just wanted to post this in a new topic - my prayer is 58 as of now and I just did the quest. I got only 7 prayer boost to 65. Theres no possible way of "hitting the clock" for pray, so it's probably the same for other skills - instead of certain level boost, you get percentage boost. If screenshots are required, I'll post tomorrow, have to go now.
