It seems like there is too much going on, there is not really a focal point. They don't, but they should have one thing that always draws your eye to it first and then a secondary, third, ect. focal point. The First focal point should serve as a start for the image and lead you to the next. Like in that sig you gave an example of, I'm drawn to the brightness first but there really isn't any lead to the blurry part on the left, it's not that great.
