Cheap way to train magic.

At your level I would reccomend playing the fist of guthix minigame. You get free runes and hence free magic xp. You also get tokens with which you can buy items, and then sell those items to buy runes. :)

Thank you so much. Is there anyway i could get your RS name, so I could ask for advice periodically? :)

I'm really new to runescape. (about a week), and i really enjoy maging, but i am nearly out of money. Is there a cheaper way for me to train. I am level 23 by the way. Thanks.

Cursing. Just use gear that gives you exactly -68 magic bonus.

I just don't understand why do people think FoG is good for magic experience. But, oh well...it's their opinion, I guess.

Because it's free, and that a good deal for anything, right? \'

If you want to train in FoG, then I suggest you wear your armor to cut down magic bonus so you can cast as long as you like for up to 10 mins. You still can gain exp just for casting, extra xp for damaging is only optional and unneccesarily.

Adius, if you haven't been runecrafting, you should... And as for paying through the nose, it will be far cheaper to mine your own rune essence (Do make sure you complete 'Rune Mysteries', as that quest is critical to all good mages.) and craft runes as much as you can. Always train that skill in such a manner that you can then use what you get on Magic, and therefore train as a mage, nearly without end... Make your runes in the following layouts:

3 fire runes and 2 air runes, for every mind rune

8 water runes and 7 water runes, for every 3 body runes

Further, if you have a staff of any rune type, and you will be using that staff in battle, then you won't need to craft the type of rune that the staff replaces. Also, if you don't have 20 runecrafting minimum, make it an immediate target. (Personally, I'd make 50 a minimum target... The time spent out of the loop has its' rewards.) You will be very glad that you did. ::'

Also, if you're wondering what to do for Chaos/Death/Nature/Law/Cosmic runes, you can rack up semi-easy money for those by mining, smithing, and selling armor/weapons... This is actually how I fund a lot of the runes I needed to buy both earlier on and now. :)

BTW, keep your eyes open for my appearing in Evil_Mumm_Ra's chat on RuneScape. I keep popping in there every so often, and I'd be glad to talk with you over in my own channel about your expanding as a mage. (Notice my mage level... 100% F2P-trained... I really like that skill.) 8-)

One last thing... Anyone telling you to play F.o.G., didn't tell you something: It won't help your Rune counts in your bank at all. It is better to train Magic out in the main RS world, and RuneCraft, because you'll actually get to have building stocks of runes in your bank. :geek:

(Warning: This user can be VERY confusing to some people... And talks in 3rd person for the timebeing due to how insane they are... Sometimes even to themself.)

Finally a player who does not follow the "fog-is-good-for-magic-training" ideology =D>

What makes damaging spells good for training is precisely the opposite. Using anti magical armour whilst casting them is stupid, unless you are splash cursing, for example.

Minimizing the damage dealth by damaging spells is totally unecessary. The more damage, the more experience.

Nevertheless, if you want to splash, try the elemental wizards south of Falador.

As for FoG, you can't cast damaging spells as the hunted. That means you have to wait 10 minutes until the next round/game!

[hide=hunted]

In addition to this, you'll find that having such a vast quantity of energy flowing through the stone is a bit dangerous, and your statistics will gradually decrease the closer you get to the Fist of Guthix itself - you'll also find yourself taking damage from the raging power. The rate at which you take damage will increase while you are in a portal chamber. On top of this, the only spells you will be able to cast while being hunted are the Vengeance, Cure Poison and Dream spells from the Lunar spellbook. Any familiars you have out will have significantly reduced combat abilities.
