I reinstalled Firefox but that didn't help. Tried using IE but same problem there. I assume there is a serious bandwidth problem in central USA. Eerr well assumed cause I am in Omaha. I always have the client loaded and waiting (set for my favorite world) for when I want to log in and play some. Right now, the internet traffic does seem to be congested and the Jagex site in particular is affected. You'll just have to wait it out.
