Hi guys.

My computers current operating system is Vista. I have another hardrive that I want to put in (I have 4 hardrive slots), but there's a problem. The hardrive that I want to put in uses Windows XP. If I put in the second hardrive, will there be any problems? If so, will there be a solution form these problems?

Thanks in advance57.gif

Unless you previously installed Windows XP from your machine (meaning the one you're talking about), AND the bootloader from Vista can point to your other hard disk, you won't be able to use XP at all. Other than that, there shouldn't be any real issues.

Explain please, I'm what's known as... technologically challenged.

Basically, my current computer automatically uses Vista. I want to put in a second hardrive that has XP on it, while keeping the one with Vista. I'm not sure about this because my friend has one hardrive with Vista and one with Ubnutu, and he can switch between them.

And you usually don't have more than one bootable OS on one partition, right?

Recovery partitions are sometimes there if you buy a prebuilt pc and stroage partitions. I will stop here don't want to confuse the originial poster.

So bottom line:

If I put in the new hardrive,, whenever I turn my computer on I'll get to decide which OS I want to use, depending on what I'll be doing?

Yes you will jsut have to install a bootloader.

Another option is to have 2 hard drives, load each OS onto them individually, and then change the boot order in the BIOS, this means you are not sucked into any boot loaders, and you can kill any OS at any time. This is what I do and it is a much safer option.

Good point. On top of that you can use the boot menu to just choose what HDD to boot from.
