November 24, 200817 yr First time I'm using charcoal in a semi-serious matter. Semi-serious because it was mainly an experiment. I made this picture by first very loosely drawing out the basic shape with a pencil, then going over those lines with a piece of willow charcoal. I think these made the lines too pronounced. Then everything after that was always changing that I can barely remember. I used the edge of a rubber to mark light sources/edges. This is my first try: ^ It's a church, the original photo was shot at a weird angle, but it also looked better than this picture. [hide=Original Church][/hide] It was done on A2 paper so I couldn't scan it but there's an A3 scanner at school which I suppose is worth giving a go. I'm going to nick more paper (all in the name of art) from school so I'll be doing more. So yeah, some C/C if you don't mind. Pretty much need advice. ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢
November 25, 200817 yr Looking good. Great depth adn shading, though the perspective does look a bit wacky.
November 25, 200817 yr I forgot a rubber could mean an eraser as well as... that  If you worked more on the perspective on this, this would be great. Next time, I would try for a little more contrast. Don't be afraid to press down on the charcoal. Maybeive the bricks texture and draw every brick.
November 25, 200817 yr dunno if this is just the pic, but yours is very, not strait? use a ruler or something. the other thing would be more shadow, and if you wanted to make it really good, make each brick
November 29, 200817 yr Author :3, thanks for posting. Yeah, the photo was shot looking up to the tower (not a smart move on my part) which is the reason why it looks slightly disorientated. I didn't want to press down too hard because I feared that I would draw something irrevocable. That being said, I tried to include some sense of shadows/highlights to this new one but I'm not so sure they are visible. I plan on practising a bit before using the almighty eraser to add more textures on. Same church, different angle: I have an explanation for the door! I sprayed the hairspray on but when I took a good look at it, I slapped myself silly. The door looks like a large gaping hole, I know. Oh, it looks so much better in real life, much more defined. I didn't attempt a sky just yet but I predict that it should be easy. I took about twenty pieces of quality paper :D so Im ready to expand my horizons and maybe use other mediums as well. ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢ CAUTION ☢
